Anyone familiar with Hilltop Records, in Hollywood, CA?
They're on Vine St.
I was wondering about their reputaion, or anything anyone can tell me about them.

That's right, the site is called "Rip-off Report."
Apparently they charge you $400 - $500 for a song, send you 7 - 8 progress reports, and - that's it . . .

How much up-front money would a legitimate recording company ask for?

I know a lot of companies won't even consider you unless you've sold 1000, or even 5000 CDs on your own . . .

I've got a song appearing on Australian idol ina 3 - 4 weeks or so. I want to know a little more about the recording industry, just in case anything comes from it . . .

Yes. when i started copywritng my songs is when they started sending me queries.I don't know how creditable thet are but, the major publishig companes are not going too ask you to send them material dude. Check them out on the BBB.com site to get more info about them.

As a general rule for most reputable record companies you can't submit unsolicited material.

So in English. If your nobody, and don't have a heavy hitter backing you, "most" reputable record companies won't let you in the door let alone accept your material.

True. But that fact doesn't stop people who are trying to get other band members by using the lure "we sent our demo to *fill in the blank* record company and they are very interested."

Those guys get hundreds of CDs a day. They just throw them away.
They have a lot of stuff to doand at 3-4 minutes per song, there isn't enough time in a day to listen to them.
By the way . . .
Is anyone familiar with zoomoozik?
They take 3 months to pay for downloads, Yahoo takes 1 month . . .
. . . any comments?
