Move to Cali.
A strong keys player with great tone and chops, knows when to lay back and hold down the groove, and knows when to let the dogs out never sleeps in SoCal.

Guys with a mountain of chops who constantly play over the top of everybody else... not so much.

Skynyrd always had a keyboard player, as did the
Allman brothers, the Stones, Zappa, h#ll John and
Paul, played keys.

Johnny7 a guy who plays over everybody else usually
isn't wanted no matter what he plays.

Bass players are usually less talented guitar players,
I've yet to meet a bass player, who can play bass as
well as me, and I rarely pick one up, except to record.
Going to have to check into bass pedals.

Piano was the most played instrument in the world, till
the flood of guitar music came on the scene.

Wow this is one very old conversation, I haven?t seen a post from HowlinJ in a few years. Lynard I thought you were going to give it a try through keys a little while back?

Anyway, there are times when any instrument can be considered unpractical. Trying to jam a square peg into a round hole just to be included, would be a selfish endeavor and doomed from the start. If the point is musical expression it makes no sense to pursue paths, where your instrument or style would conflict with the tone or genre.

"Out numbered and need to escape" , try living in southwest virginia. This is one sodding place for a rock guitarist .. I havent been able to find a decent band in 15 years. When I was living in memphis and nashville they were a dime a dozen (but then, so were guitarists) .. yep it's all in the geographical locale ..

..... there's got to be a few Doctors and Lawyers up there in Check that play. We know where Check is but its funny when you google it ............... Just this blank spot ............ Check .............! LMAO it's a bit of a drive to Roanoke.
