If it's worth discussing, then it's worth writing a song about. I wrote, and recorded a song on this subject. I call the subject 'retro tendencies', the attitude of many, that there is no worthwhile music happening anymore. But, if we are not expressing ourselves in our music, isn't this just . . . . musicians B-S-ing? So, listen to my song titled BACK IN TIME. If you are disappointed with present day music, including mine, just remember the words of Thoreau.

FLYING CLOUD NINE
soundcloud UGG.
is what the future of music is. unfortunately.
it is in my opinion complete and total horseshit.
but it is the future.
no offense to you personally, or your composition or collection.
this phenomenon has already taken on the shape of modern music's final form
which is
a room full of mirrors,
i really cant see any difference between soundcloud and Facebook;
a conflagration of egocentric plagiarism, that even the smallest child can master in less than 4 hours.
well there I said it.
sorry really not aiming this at you.
but i had to say it
I could probably say more but i won't

A conflagralation of egocentric plagiarism.
I stole it all.
I stole it all.

JCP61, You said that you would not comment on my music, then you tossed descriptive horse manure, a-splashing in my direction, with some talk about music that a child of 4 years could produce. I only wish that I had appreciated twelve tone musical technique at that age. Other negative accusations you tossed in my general direction included plagiarism, and big ego. Regarding plagiarism, that must mean that you were quick enough to catch my seven word quotation of Paul Simon in my lyrics. When writing originals, one trick is to include bites of other artists' lyrics, licks, or styles. To those in the know, it's a shout-out in honor of the other musical artist. Did you label the song, plagiarism, because it employed a quote? Or. . . . am I just giving you way too much credit for your powers of lyrical analysis?
Those who listen to the words of the song BACK IN TIME, will hear the voice of a person who is unheard, because everyone is too busy with their backward eyes facing toward yesterday to appreciate what is happening today. John Lennon commented on, and battled, that same behavior called Beatle-mania, after the Beatles broke up.
JCP61, Here is how a trained musician listens to, briefly analyzes, and then makes accurate comments about another's music.
I listened to JCP61's music three times, so that I would know what I am talking about when writing.
Title: Soul Clock
By: Chris aka JCP61
Type: Jazzy instrumental, no vocals
Phrase Structure: A A B C A B C A A B coda
Drums: Relaxed, diverse beats and rhythms throughout
Rhythm Piano, acoustic, relaxed jazzy progression of chords
Lead: Amped electric guitar solo continues nonstop
from start to end of piece playing fast scales, with
distortion, reverb, wow pedal, and whammy bar.
Suggestion: Cool the heels of the attention hungry lead guitar during sections of the music, by letting other instruments take prominence.

Words to the wise : Step lightly on creative song writers' toes. Because you never know what they might say about you in their next song.
Do not become a jazz, folk, blues, classical or metal snob who cannot be seen associating with musicians of lesser talent.
Admit louder, that colleges teach students how to use digital audio workstations along with piano and guitar. The computer, as a musical instrument, is well on it's way to stardom. The stars will increase a thousandfold.
Regarding your 'room-full-of-mirrors' paranoia: Our choices of musical sources used to be limited to a few radio stations that rotated the same top 40 into every radio and TV. With the advent of the internet, a thousand times more sources of different musics from around the world can now be tapped into. Increasing the number of choices will lead us out of the confines of the house of mirrors to a broader place.
New Music gets rejected by members of each declining previous generation. Could you be doing the same thing?

well perfesser,
As I said i didn't off this as a critique of your particular collection of samples.
Yes, you are giving me too much credit. I am not a lyrical analyst.
not even sure what that might be.
what and who you borrowed from is not my concern really.
I said egocentric, not big.
last I heard 12 tone music was a specific mathematical formula designed to produce the effect of random note selection. what you have there is not 12 tone music. because it has repetition and 12 tone music dose not repeat by design.
what you have there is dissonance ( if there is such a thing)
I did not label your "rap" I labeled sound cloud.

I know whats in my music,
I'm not in college so your grading system is of no interest to me. and I'm sure it bores everyone else too.
your grading system dose not make my music more boring or more exciting than it really is.
now if you said BOY that sucks, or man I liked that
that would be of interest to me.
as far your suggestion goes, I tried to get that damn guitar player to mind his manners but he just won't.
I fired him but he won't leave.

I said it was the future of music, what more do you want?
it certainly will make music professors obsolete in no time.
I do predict a great rise in elementary school music teachers though.
not to mention i phone apps.
as I said, a room full of mirrors.
Hey Cloud nine I thought what Jcp said was
cool even tho I still don't know what it means.
That's why I posted it again. But if you just want
to get in a name calling contest I'm your huckleberry.

Please do not make me look for your music.
I won't chase it to another site, regardless.
I do want to hear it, but only if you make it easy for us by listing it on this site.
Sorry I missed out on your tune. Consider making your own thread so we all can critique it and give it a listen.
(besides people get pissed when you hijack their thread, loser)

No rock and roll revolution, no British Invasion, Disco, Rap, Alternative, we're not in any musical "era." Where's the next "big thing" in music? Where's the next big sound coming from? Have we become so diversified in our musical tastes that there can't be a next "big thing?" Are there too many genres and sub-genres? Seems to me we're in a huge rut, a grand funk.
The world is too small, we don't need Record companies anymore. The thing that separates the men from the boys (no offense girls) is LIVE performance. A return to what made it fun in the first place Raw Talent, and a Circus on the side.
