In a runner's forum, and have become impressed
with their music appreciation and knowledge, and
how different music effects different runs. Music
touches us all, you've seen them with their headphones
on bobbin down the street, getting physical with the
music. Music permeates our lives, I hear it everywhere,
the cars, the stores, the churches, the schools, the
old folks homes, the sporting events, the special events,
the amusement parks, the theaters, the internet.....
So many musical paths available, but are there only
3 musical paths, music to please others, music to please
the Lord, or music to please yourself. Ideally you would
want all 3, but ultimately I have to please myself first,
I couldn't pick a 2nd or third path right now, but the
time will come.

Who do you play music for?

Not being a musician and having spent all this money on all this fancy equipment.
It would seem a waste not to fiddle with it from time to time.

I try to play the songs the Lord throws me and while I think of them as 'my' songs that is actually not so very true. They seem to come out fully formed. I play them because they are there and I just don't know how to stop.

I always praise God when I get something really right and I certainly know whom to blame when I don't.

Eventually my motor will run down and then on my deathbed, I'll whisper to the hospice care nurse "I've got some new tunes...ARrrrrgh..."

When someone says to me, "This is a song the Lord gave me" my first thought is "Yea, He didn't want it"

Everything we receive is a gift from the Lord, including the inspiration to write a song...but c'mon....let's not blame God for our poor songs as if that will make them interesting. Like any other "work" it's only good if we've been faithful in the small things all along.

Your not alone.

Pray I'm your hospice nurse so I can bring that last song to fruition. 8)

It's just something I enjoy doing. I'm more of a fan of music than a real player like many of you guys. I try not to take it or myself too serious. Hell I don't even own an amp.

Be it an inspiration, a few lyric, or a full song.
If the spirit gives me an answer, some strength in my life, or propts me to praise with music, it is truly from the Lord.
And it is offered as such back to him from me.
Whether or not another soul finds it interesting or consider it "good music" is no more relevant than if another man considers my prayers to be interesting or appropriate.

And I know for a fact that the wretched mankind debasing puke that spews fourth from the mouths of so many men in the form of song is not from God nor does it glorify man nor God.

I don't blame God ... I kneel in awe of his glory and praise his holy name for the blood of Christ that saves me as a free gift..
Our spirit is infinite our time in this body is finite ... there is no second chance.
Amen

Interesting. Emotion has always promoted me to play, not to get too overly religious, but my music to me is an expression of my frailty, not of my strength.

To be strong against the mistakes that I make takes a lot, but when I express it, it relieves me. Strange how that through God's gift I am able to do this.

like the forgiveness he gives. It washes me clean.

Lynard, , friend...allow me to share an ancient secret.., One that us very old souls have kept so close to ourselves, that the secret was hidden even from us...(I suspect its buried somewhere with all my missing socks and pens) :D

If you play music for the lord first, then you will always...be very, very successful... with the other two reasons to play music... :)

When I was a young dude I played for female attention.

As I got older, I played for the party.

Then when I got divorced I guess it was all for female attention again.

At this point in time, which Im sure can change at any minute, I do it for me and just loving it. If its a gift from God its simply him not letting me stop, I mean I slaved at this for some reason or another and it wasnt money, but I do feel there is some higher power guiding me.

But for the moment I guess Im selfish, cause even at gigs of late, I havent been doing as much theatrical stuff as I did a few years ago, Im in it for the purety of the notes, or the tone, I guess.

Ive been playing more on my own lately than the last couple of years and Ive really been amazing myself at how quick I can embrace a new way to play and act on it. So I guess that is a great gift that at my age I still find new things in what I do musically to amuse myself and keep yself interested.

I could say ala the Blues Brothers: "Im on a mission from God!"

Zactly! :)

You know, in the cool world of fantasy... people created witches/warlocks, for the mystical nature, the insider connection to the magical powers of the universe... Our literature is saturated with this fascination and dare i say.. vicariousness, lived out by normal folks who cant otherwise work up a goose bump...

In the real world, The closest true beings of magic are indeed the 'musicians'... We "practice the craft" and wield a magic over the listeners who can hear us... We are the liaison between this world and the magical world, which so many people yearn to escape to and experience...
It is indeed a gift form god, that musicians have this special power to transpose such a joy to listeners.. :)
(And gettin the chicks, proves that our craft works :)
Rock On!

I?m all for making the folks I work with successful and then in turn, myself along with it. I don?t care where it comes from. The fact remains I probably couldn?t get paid enough, not to do it.

Is that really a good thing?

How much time, effort and money, does music costs? I?m not with that this is some divine gift to humans, no more than the assumption from Gatling, that his gun will save lives. In most cases if you want the model of a catastrophic life, a successful entertainer is about as far as you need to look. Sex drugs and rock n? roll is more than enough of an incentive for me and sure I?d be alright with some coin too. Claiming it was executing the will of the almighty, I think it trivializes the universe?s priorities just a little. On a good note (pun intended), It?s not like I can claim ?the devil made me do it? either.

I happen to be agnostic, in my religious views if there is a God, it?s oblivious to the deeds of mankind. Sorry Christians your God doesn?t make me do anything, but on the bright side, neither does mine. Believe in whatever you want, I most certainly do. If I were to have a religiously inspired song, it wouldn?t have a happy ending. Although all of the suffering religion has brought us over the centuries, may be worth more than a few verses.

I've always loved that line!~
"Although all of the suffering religion has brought us over the centuries"

where did anyone come up with these ideas?
can you tell me some other form of human striving that doesn't have suffering part of the picture.
what about the advances in science?
before modern science we didn't have nuclear fallout,
we didn't PCB's and DDT and associated mutations.
pharmaceutical companies.....mmmmmmmm there is a sport for you.
there is plenty of evidence that free speech caused a few wars of it's own.

is there a liberal on the planet that doesn't live in a cartoon world?

I have never played music for the chicks, money, or attention of any kind.
I play music simply because I LOVE TO! On the other hand every job has it's fringe benefits!
