So here is a simple question, what is your favorite guitar? Personally, I love ESP's, the sound and look. I plan on going for an M1000 when I have enough money.

ESP's are excellent, I must concur! But for me, piecing my own together or completely building my own, is the ticket. For example: My main ax at present is what I call an Ibanstien. a 22 fret bolt on Ibanez neck (stock keys), strat body, Schaller roller bridge and an active EMG 81 in the bridge position. One volume, one tone, one purpose..... To rip and tear!!! Oh yea, A fresh set of Dean Markley Blue Steel LTHB (Light top heavy bottom)

Sure, a top end guitar is a real pleasure to play and a solid ax is definitely a must, but it's how you play it that truly matters most. Great topic by the way.

Fender Japan usually v-necks, usually 54-57 RI Stratocaster for tone.

Only thing I liked recently was a 60th anniversary mex strat in blizzard silver.

Yeah though, it would be cool to make my own guitar. By I am not sure I would call it Ibanstien... Lol. Neh, just kidding around. But yeah, I wish I could make my own guitar. I am new, thus I am still learning all of the technicals. But I would like an EMG 81 in the bridge for sure, but something with a beautiful tone for the neck. It is cool to make Frankenstein guitars, all enigmatical parts.

How about like a body of a Thinline Telecaster, with an EMG pickup, a sawed off headstock, glow in the dark fret inlays, a floyd rose tremolo, and picture painted on of a robot. Hmm... Sounds like the freakiest guitar that would ever be made. I should try it. Lol.

Now that would be a sight to behold! I've went through quit a few guitars in my day. Lost a lot of them in pawn shops, although I've also bought a lot of them from pawn shops as well! The hardest part in building a guitar is making the neck, that is if your doing it from scratch. I believe this is the heart of the guitar, for if the necks not right.... nothing else matters! Keep at it brother, if this is something your passionate about, it's just a matter of gaining the knowledge For my next project I shall be using the body of a tele, funny you should mention that. Oh yea..... your more than welcome man.

I like Strats (I have a 72) and Les Pauls (I have a 79 and a 2000).

Yeah man, I am very passionate about my music. Lately I have been all out of whack, my carpal tunnel syndrome has been holding me back. Also, I wish I had the patience to sit down and memorize a solo, maybe then I would not be so bad at it.

It would be cool though to build a guitar, and I think you are right, even with no experience in this, I agree, the neck is the hardest part to build. Building the neck, the truss rod, the positioning and measuring of the frets, the smoothness of the wood. If you do not know what you are doing (Like me), you are in deep trouble.

Lately I have been watching Jonny Buckland of Coldplay play his semi-hollow body '74 Thinline Telecaster. I love how it sounds, especially when he uses the brass slide (I just bought a brass slide because of this). I plan on getting a guitar like that someday when I have the money for it. A big guitar collection would rock to have.

Oh and I saw jimmydanger mention he likes the Les Pauls. That reminded me of this new robotic Les Paul, that thing is cool, but I think I would rather mess around with the Fender VG Stratocaster (Just have to turn a switch, not break strings, lol).

Anywhoo, I gotta stick with my old standby...the venerable Ibanez RG550.

BTW, my brother just GAVE me a 1987 RG 550.
I played one for years until I traded it in...& have missed it terribly since..

I've grown to really enjoy playing my Ibanez RG 220 with EMG's. I've done all the Setups myself, through Info I've gotten on the web. It makes it feel like it's more your own, and the EMG's are nice and hot.

My primary axe is a 1960 Reissue Les Paul Classic, its the one on the left in my profile. If I play live I play it 95% of the time. Second would be my Strat, its a US model with tall frets. Ive got a Dimarzio mini humbacker in the rear, a Muy Grande single in the center and a Seymour Duncan mini humbucker in the neck position. The 3rd guitar in the picture is a 72 Les Paul Goldtop with P-90 pickups. Its cool to play at home but I dont like to take it out cause its heavy and those big single coils pick up a lot of noise. On the other hand I can plug it into that old Sunn amp in the picture and get that Mountain, Miss Queen sound all day long, just bring the ear plugs.

Lately Ive been thinking about getting an Ibanez to carry around and play so nothing happens to my better guitars. And possibly a POD preamp and go straight to a PA.

Amps, I have a Mesa Triple Rectifier for bigger gigs and a Mesa Subway Rocket for smaller situations.

You can't go wrong with an Ibanez brother! I've owned several. Their worthy steeds and relatively cost effective on a comparative scale. Thats quite a collection you've got going on. I agree, Lester's are piggishly heavy, but man o man they've got perpetuus sustain! I scored a new Pocket Pod that kicks ass backwards for $129 clams off of Sweetwater.com, this wee bugger is amazing! And you can use it as a headphone amp as well. You can't go wrong there.

I agree with Wegman, every guitar Ive ever owned Ive tryed to make sound like a Les Paul. So as far as sound and feel thats what I like best. I just want to get something a little cheaper and that Im not emotionally attached to so if I have to break it over someones head I wont care.

Lol. I am not sure what I want, I plan on getting a new guitar over the holidays. I am going back and forth between a $200 Epiphone SG or perhaps and Ibanez. But I read reviews on the Ibanez and heard that it falls apart, so that was a bit discouraging! So I am going to try out sometime this week some low priced guitars at my local guitar store. Hopefully I will find one. I want my ESP M1000! but $900 is a bit over my budget...
