Unfortunately passionate issues beget passion. What good is one who has a personal relationship with God if he does not share it with those who do not know God? Isn't the great commission of all religion to go out into the world and make disciples?
Then the object of religious discussion is to point out the difference in perspectives. Who would not be passionate in finding eternal life and wish to share that with someone? And each believe that they have the key. Therein lies the passion in debating religion. It is written: To those who are being saved we are the fragrance of life, to those who are perishing we are the stench of death. Now that alone ruffles feathers.
Slacker, I agree with your concept about
compulsion to share what appears to be great and wonderful news...
However, I also think it comes down to the feelings of exclusion by those people who bear the brunt of our "good news"...
When I was I kid... you couldn't have convinced me about God or religion... But then, one day...my whole mind changed about it.. (Right things, in the right way at the right time, and presto...a light turned on for me) .
I think it is very important that we ,
who consider ourselves very fortunate to have such faith, respect others who aren't convinced..., we should not coerce the subject on to those individuals... However, by no means , should we ever apologize for living by, and setting examples of... our Christianity.
The way I see it... Those , who don't, wont,. cant believe...aren't gonna change their perspective on account of anything I say here...So I wont even bother them about it.. On the other hand...If i write 'Praise God' in my topic... i don't think people should get so dang offended by it...
Next thing you know their toes will start curling up and a house will land on them...
