No pay for me this year.

Some friends of mine were playing at the San Diego Auto Show for the Porsche Club of America. They were kind enough to invite an old washed-up, has-been guitarist (me) to sit in for a few. The Blues Doctors band did all the work and made all the cash. All I had to do was show up and throw in a few tasty licks and solos here and there. A pretty easy gig when you have a good band laying down the groove.

Man ... you may not be able to take that kind of " pay " to the bank. But it's enough to make some of us less experienced guitarist rather jealous.

I don't get these calls very often but it was a fun show even without a paycheck. They sent me a set list a few days before so I could do a quick review. No rehearsal, no schlepping a bunch of gear around, and a 10 minute sound check. I just brought my Tele, pedal board and a small Mesa amp, the band and the sound crew did the rest.

If I wasn't such a computer dufus I would post some pics. I have no idea how to do that.

Didnt do a new year show this year, in fact we agreed a couple of years ago, no more New Years Eve gigs, the last one we did we got $1200, that was 3 years ago.

We get paid $600 a gig these days, $150 per man, got one next sat night the 7th, good hours too, only 8-12.

If someone calls for a sit in gig these days I quote them $100 plus expenses, havent done any lately cause most bands I know arent making hardly any money.
