Shingles

There goes next weeks practice because this stuff is torture.
Luckily enough I got in right around 24 hours after the rash appeared, so the anti-virus is having a great deal of effect.

Never quite had an illness like this put me out of the playing loop before.
A cold, no problem, the flu? That's nothing.

Anyone else have a not so pleasant new years?

I had the shingles about a month ago. Let me know how the anti-virus works out for you. They want me to get a booster every year now. Sorry to hear you got it. Lotsa hand washing for you now. More than usual. Be very conscious of what you touch. Hope you get well soon!

You can think of shingles as "chicken pox round 2"

It is caused by the varicella zoster virus which causes chicken pox and a few other annoyances.

It goes by the name Herpes Zoster as well

It works GREAT! I didn't take a shot or vaccine it is an oral tablet @800mg
This is day 3 of the rash (day one was not treated) and it is nearly gone, I mean the blisters have already begin to "crust" as the doctors put it! Although that is a really rare quick cure, I would highly recommend it.

The stuff I am on is rather cheap compared to other anti-virus' @ only 20¢ a tab.

Also shingles cannot be spread to anyone who has had chicken pox, but can spread to someone who hasn't had chicken pox.

I felt like hell for a coupla' days before we recognized the symptoms. Good call, catching it early is key. I didn't have health insurance but went to VA. I haven't been there in decades. That was my good call. VA has improved I think. It cost me nothing, even prescriptions.

I am a disabled veteran and because of my income level (married and living off of the Chapter 30 GI Bill) I get free heath care from them.

I always recommend using the VA, because as a veteran, you earned those privileges, they aren't a hand out you earned them.

Also check in with your local VFW if you have time.

You could be passing up things that are rightfully yours.

There are very few if any songs written about shingles. Perhaps you could make the best of this opportunity through composition.
I hope you get over that crap soon. I also go to the VA, but that place scares me so I go there as little as possible. Hospitals are where people go to catch exotic diseases. After all, that is the place where they all the germs meet to spread themselves around.

The topical ointment Silvadeen (silversulfsalazine) sp ? is reported by many patients and people in my contact to work well to relieve the pain of varcella rash.

That's the ointment that they put on new born's eyes and burn patients wounds, isn't it?

I'm not familiar with the procedures now in use in labor and delivery.

However the use of said ointment is frequent with many types of skin lesion especially burns due to it's anti infective properties.

That's what they gave me and it worked fine along with the anti-biotics. 3 days before I received shingles, I played in this stank bar and they think I most likely got it from just shaking hands with one of the patrons or using their bathroom! My rash was pretty painful all down my lower back down to the tail of the spine....still have scars! I was actually lucky as I was informed that 90% of shingle sufferers actually get the rash on their face and become scarred for life!
