I'd be checking out what else is available in the meantime, so you aren't left stranded and he knows you are serious.

That leaves the door open for him and gives incentive to straighten his life up, without being rejected for personal failures. It also leaves the door open for you to find the right drummer, even if it's him.

Until you have a new drummer there is no reason to "kick him out" if he might be rehabilitated.

We all need mercy from time to time...

yep....I've lived this scenario too many times.

No matter who is in the band, there are always different expectations and different circumstances that will challenge us. If the talent is there, personal differences and the obstacles of everyone's life are the real challenge.

When you find band members who are worth putting up with, you'll make adjustments. It might mean a long season of not gigging to get to the season of full-employment, but that doesn't mean it has to be "down" time.

"Friends don't make bands. Bands make friends."

If he 'wants' to do it enough, he will. You just have to lay out some ground rules.
If his 'want' is lacking, it doesn't matter what you do. In fact talking about any type of 'rules', etc, will just make him bail.

We all have issues, and the number one band killer is people problems.
Good chemistry is so important.

I'm starting to ramble...

Absolutely right and so succinctly stated that I intent to quote you at our next band meeting.

Sh#tcan him it will neverstop.
This is the voice of experience,
and I'm sh#tcanning my drum
player, and ending our friendship
of 30 years.

But I will grab him up and talk to
him in a way he will sure understand.
Cause I don't want to see him die.

You're all not going to believe this, but he is coming to practice later today!
I will update you all on how it went and what was said.
After all anyone could have this situation in the music industry.

Last night we had our first rehearsal after our "come to Jesus meeting "
( pun absolutely intended )

Went well ... I'm pleased with the renewal in dedication from all the guys.

Practice went great!
Besides our newest song that isn't arranged yet, everything went smooth and comfortable. We had 3 new songs to go over and better pieces in our old stuff and it went down without a hitch.
Our drummer was actually ahead of our newest guitarist.

I think the one on one talk I had with him really set him straight because he has a newly energized zest for the band. He'll be at practice today and next week too.

I can't wait until we get everything down correctly so I can post some tracks here.

I like JW's suggestion. a drum machine would take a little time to program, but you would "always" be able t practice/rehearse with drums and that would be good for the BAND.

Yeah but a drum machine can't take its shirt off and impress the girls. Or get drunk, get in a fight with its girlfriend and get arrested. Drummers are more neurotic than Woody Allen.

Ours is not.

But then none of us really fit into any of the rock band stereotypes.

I don't mean to resurrect a dead thread, but our drummer has been to practice while I wasn't there, and we are practicing later today!

I guess sometimes it really just takes a man to man talk to settle things.

I really hope this trend continues, he really is a piece of this project, a natural fitting piece, and he is going to be great for PR, and endorsements.

Air, it might be good to every now and then have a heart to heart with your whole band to make sure everyone is on the same page on your group.

Im glad this seems to be working itself out for you!

Rock On Bro!

JW, I realize my last post wasn't very informative.

Every since I talked to him he has backed off the bottle, he's looking to date again, and most of his post are his old optimistic post they used to.

I didn't even speak much during the talk, I mainly listened.
He's a great guy, and even if he doesn't play for us I'd hate to watch his life circle the drain.

I hate to admit it Air, but a couple of years ago, I kinda went off the deep end, my bandmates came to me with concerns, not about the band but about my well being, we all go back 25-35 yrs with each other, I think knowing they really cared made me get back on track, not only with the band but with some of my personal issues.

Big Kudos to you for stepping up to the plate with your drummer, sorry I was one here that just said get rid of him, like you said we dont know the whole story.

Got my fingers crossed for you here!

Too easy to see a situation from a purely business perspective ain't it JW.

We're all guilty of it. Not considering the person first.

Kudos from me as well AV.
