If you want to get together to make music with me, there is one thing I ask of you:
Do what you say you will. Hey, I will do what I say.
If you can't meet on schedule, or if music is not so important to you - then just say 'no.'
If you have a lot of things you want to do, and music is just one of them: just say 'no;' save me some time.
I'd rather that someone says they can't play well enough, - instead of saying they can; and schedule a time to meet - and then get cold feet.
. . . happens all the time.
Or, if you have something else that you might have to do that day - fine. Tell me, and go do it. I'm not going to try to talk you into anything. Just go.
If you lead me to beleive something, and then don't do it, then you are unreliable.
I have a whole folder full of people who just want to talk about how they plan on making music, and how they like my stuff and all. But once I go to set up a time - all the excuses start flowing . . .
I'm telling everone, right up front: the talkers and excuse-makers won't be working with me.
You may think you have a good excuse/reason (and - who knows - maybe you do). But I've heard every excuse three times already.
I'll maybe give you a second chance, because you might have an honest reason for missing a meeting.
But - just be aware: the music world is FULL of musicians who are unreliable.
And - if I don't know you, and you miss our first meeting - guess what category you fall in, my friend?
I'm not going to chase you down. I'm tired of wasting time on this kind of person. Either you want to do it, or you don't.
Or, if you're not sure what you want to do, then, "Goodbye . . . " Just go away . . . until you figure out what you want.
I am reliable. If I suspect you are not, - don't be surprised if I never contact you again. Because, instead of chasing you: I'll be playing music.
Just do what you say you will do.
