Hey axgrinder. Don't sweat it dude. We come from as many different influences as one could ever imagine but the bottom line is we all fit in because of our common love of music. One man's meat being another man's poison will always ruffle a few feathers when it comes to difference of opinions on what makes good music but that's to be expected everywhere you go. Just have a good time here and speak what's on yer mind.

Truthfully the most important thing we can do on this board is to try and help each other. By now you have discovered how hard it is to be a musician. There's a lot that we can share and help each other with, but some people's egos prevent this. If you have audio definitely post it, you may be subjected to ridicule if you don't. Have a good time and rock on.

Ax, did you write and or perform that piece in your profile? sorry i honestly don't know (so go ahead you guys, snicker and point fingers).
After awhile you'll see or get a feel for who on here you would like to continue communique in a different manner or setting, like personal email, phone, etc. Those are the people to respond to, the others? just bring along a stick to scrape off the bottom of your shoes after stepping in certain threads. (i'm guilty of this myself, also man enough to admit it)
We're all in this together, unfortunately "low self esteem combined with a super inflated ego" make for strange bedfellows to say the least as it manifests itself into anonymous internet attacks by some posters.

I'm a member on various other boards, and this one by far, allows too much and too many detremental posts and posters to remain here.

So anyways, if you turn around and walk back out...you never will know what happened inside.

Yes .... indeed I did, Franny! I wrote it back in the winter of 96 during the process of being diagnosed with bipolar/borderline personality disorder. I was one messed up guinea pig, let me tell you! Anyway, at least I produced this song out of it, that was about all. Life situations are definitely fuel for song writing, eh?

Well, I'm not going anywhere so.... here I be. I look forward to interacting with those of you who are passionate about what your trying to accomplish here. But as you said, I don't have time for BS. (};-P) I'm used to making my own smilies! I hope you liked my song, I seriously don't know? Well, at least you didn't say you disliked it! See you around and thanks for caring bro.

Ax, allow me for a moment to introduce myself; Franny is my real name (well Francis actually) i may be named after him...but a Saint i am not.
I have my demons also, to put it mildly i lived the "Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll" life, so you could say i'm a "drunken perverted bass player that does drugs"...
needless to say that lifestyle didn't treat me too kindly, hard to give up the drugs (which are now prescribed), alcohol withdraw damn near killed me (more than once) sex...well i'll worry about that one someday...maybe...NOT!!! Well the girls soon left, the music came to a screeching halt...but the party went on. God must have one helluva sense of humor for me to now have a Family, a good woman(im being forced to type that) and 3 sons. So thats some of what my life was; my music when i started back up not too long ago (17+ year hiatus) is a combo of a mess of influences, R&R, Funk, R&B, Jazz, and Fusion...thats a heck of an outcome for someone that started on Bluegrass.
I'm a "by ear" player, never had a formal lesson, know some theory...and definitely not a sight reader...so if you stop reading i'll understand. Tomorrow morning i audition then immediately play for this girl http://www.myspace.com/loricitro (i hope)
playing Contemporary Christian which im well versed in...i'll post how it went tomorrow, it's almost 2 am and it's at 8:30 am...i guess i better get to sleep...i somehow suspect she's expecting someone that owns a bass and is a one string plunker, im going to play it somewhat safe, because of her bio i'm alittle intimidated...

On to your song, dude i hope you kept writing and composing; you have this old man humbled...that song is actually beautiful. The only thing and i mean only thing that would set that song over the top...would be Spanish Acoustic work in the solo(s). That song is awesome, if you have stuff better...you should be selling it. I'd write more but will have to wait till tomorrow.

What is that line from "Max Ehrmann's Desiderata"?

LMAO.

When you cut and paste the quote, you can leave out the "I think it goes..." because brother, you KNOW how it goes. You just copied and pasted it.

LOL. I needed a good laugh before bed!

Hope you had a good thanksgiving Scott!

Hey..... thanks for the awesome comment Franny . Yeah, I think your right regarding the lead. (Although, I thought I pulled a pretty good one!) The "crowd roar" intro needs to go as well (It was meant as a joke) I planned on having a total remake done by now, however, until I can afford that new iMac or at the bare minimum, a CPU 1.5 GHz upgrade for this old G4 PowerMac dual 500 MHz I'm sort of dead in the water :( !

Well my new friend, I've served 2,005 days in prison for my craziness, not to mention serving "life on the installment plan" since I was 14! Topped out in 93 and have been sober for over a year now (finely) It's nice to have a piece of mind! Life is far to short to be throwing it away. better that I realized this at 41 then not at all, eh? That seed planted long ago has finely sprouted.

OK, Getting a wee long winded here, so I will bid you a fare well for now.

Axgrinder,

Welcome aboard man. Im glad to hear you are sober for a year, that is a major accomplishment. Im sure you can add some spice to this board. Thru the years I think Ive played music for all the wrong reasons, it just seems after the 40 yr mark you start to get some clarity thru music.

Anyway keep rockin

Thanks a lot John, You sure know how to make a feller feel at home! I guess I play music because it keeps me sane. I believe that it is about the only thing that has other than AA. Anyhow, I like your stuff! I wish that we lived in the same area so we could jam together. I have no one to play with but myself  I guess I should say.... I play by myself! From the looks of your page, we have quite a lot in common, eh? Well, take it easy man. keep your timber limber and don't let your meat loaf!

Hey Alvin (Ax), i apologise for my delay in getting back to this thread.
Been busy as all get out with preparing the house for hardwood flooring, Natural Cherry (highly figured) engineered floor...add my disability to that, plus playing and i'm a mess. (my disability is my Lumbar spine) i have 4 out of the 5 discs blown, they want to remove the L-4/L-5 and the L-5/S-1 discs and use Titanium, then do something to the T12/L-1 and the L-2/L-3 (surgical nonetheless) a rough frame wall fell on me back in 87...been under the knife once already(2 procedures at once) so i'm not exactly volunteering to jump back on the table; know what i mean?
But anyhow, the audition went well enough that i'm the regular Bassist now with her at Church...she (Lori Citro) is scary good...leaves me in the dust as far as "paper trained" goes. (thanks to Irminsul for the paper trained saying) thats a good way of putting it.
Anyhow, at the "audition" she had a keyboard malfunction...the power supply blew...so the scramble was on from the get-go. But we substituted, leveled out then flat out performed with zero practice and very little warmup. I was surprised at the end when she invited me back...i guess my "winging it" skills paid off. As you can tell, "i can't say enough about her"; never worked with anyone at her level, she sits there and transcribes while carrying on a BS conversation with us, laughing and giggling included...music is hand written for us in a matter of minutes...and brought into chord charts for us non-readers, it's all good, i've learned a boatload from her in just 3 meetings thus far.
So, thats some more of my life...to be continued

Hey Franny, you have one heck of a serious back problem there. Your whole entire lumbar spine has multilevel disc degeneration. That is a rough thing. Then you brought up to T12, so your thoracic spine is also not doing well. That has to really badly hurt. People with back problems always complain of the intensity in pain. My mother has those kinds of problems. I know of them because I am involved in the medical field, so I study a lot. You should really try and be careful with that, I am sure your doctor has told you to wear support braces. I am not a doctor, but yeah do not mess around with that, do not want to make it worse. So as you have heard before, do not overly exert yourself. Good luck with that.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.
