When you grab that explorer, go ahead and get two, it will be cheaper. i know somebody who can dispose of the second one. Me!! i love the shape and the sound. Just wish for a maple neck like my Tele.

Jackson or Dean would do in a pinch.

What do you think of EMG pickups?

I have EMG-HZ pups in the neck and mid position on my Stratocaster. The bridge retains the original humbucker.

I like them quite well.
Our local luthier feels that EMG produces some of the best pups on the market. Or at least I have heard him make such in statement before.

It's pretty subjective. And my personal experience rather limited.

George

I'm glad to hear that.

I have a Seymour Duncan 'pearly gates' in my strat (bridge pos) plus two strat pickups. I have been thinking that the best place for a couple EMGs would be in a NEW guitar!

Would those p-ups be contrary or complimentary to a Fender (known sound)? The git I'm building doesn't have yet, but I can get an American made neck for it. I figure it will be more Fender than anything else at that time. I love the sound of a Gibson, and Gibby P-ups are available at same store. Gibby/ Strat/Blank?

Honestly I think pretty much any single coil will do as far as the difference in G vs F sound.

Again ... limited exposure.
I prefer to test things out for myself.

Unfortunately that is the most expensive route.
Like all the Yutz tube " demos " of amps and guitar these guys put out ad nausium.
How do you know what your guitar or your amp sounds like with all those attached pedals and effects.
Not to mention endless wanking.

A little effort at scientific controls would be nice don't you think ?

Crunch

Not sure on the EMGs but if George is using them I'd guess they are ok.

The Seymour Duncan in my Strat was built by request of Dusty Gibbons who was asked what it would take to get him to play a Fender. "It should sound like a Gibson!" It does have that crunch.
