When I played the Pusher my mom would go crazy!

There was a song that its never too late to start all over again, I always like that one for some reason.

I still like to play Born To Be Wild every now and then, its one of those songs that on the end we just speed it up til our arms are bleeding, people love that!

The song "Monster" was relevant then and now:

The spirit was freedom and justice
And its keepers seemed generous and kind
Its leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
Now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told

I hear everybody referring to Born to be Wild, while
not a big Steppenwolf fan, I thought Magic Carpet Ride
was the best tune by them.

Why so bitter George? Steppenwolf was a great band, and "Monster" was and is a great song. The lyrics could have been written yesterday; to me that makes it relevant.

"Renegade," from Steppenwolf 7, is one of my all-time faves.

So, okay, it's just barely possible that I tend to embrace the darkness when it comes to music. I loved that song when I used to listen to Steppenwolf 7 while folding papers for my paper route. That song I'd often repeat.

FWIW: My paper route soundtrack also included Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull and Iron Butterfly.

I'm firmly of the belief that if you are playing Born To Be Wild and you are not on the ragged edge of disaster all the way through the song, you're not playing it right.

Its hard to measure "off the charts" then... I dont recall consuming pound after pound

I think everyone has their own take on Steppenwolf. For some its not
about the lyrics or message in the song. For me I just thought the
music was cool.
Anything John Kay sang sounded cool to me. He could sing the
phone book and it was cool. That guy was just frickin COOL. Don't
you guys remember how important it was back then to be cool.

People listen to music in different ways and for different reasons.
All those ways and reasons change too over time. I was a ZEP.
freak when I was younger but now I sing Country and enjoy
romantic Standards. My hair used to reach my waist. Go figure.[/b]

Just have no use for silly "rock stars " thinking their lyrical ramblings are somehow a revelation.
They are not ... just silly lyrics.
Take John Lennon for example IMAGINE pulease ... pull your stoned head out of Yoko's ass and take a breath of reality.

It is a beautifully written song ( musically ) with pitiful lyrics.
