If I were to constantly talk about The Father, and how you should live your life according to the Gospel, I know I would be a Bible pounder. By the same criteria, Jesus was not? For the record, it's all good news.

Uhh Crunchy. Christ had willing audiences... and only called on the unwilling when they patently violated God. (Hence called upon the sinners). Also, he did not tell people how to live their lives...Instead, he 'offered' them salvation from their deaths. (Big Difference)

And of course, you know that Jesus had the chops to back up any suggestion he made about peoples lives. To date, no one has matched his ability.

IF you constantly talk about God, then you constantly aren't getting anything done by his bidding. Spreading the Good News simply is not the sole 'criteria' required by Christ . In fact, I will go on a limb and state that "talking the Gospel" is about 2% of his tasking for humans... Christ is about SETTING EXAMPLES. Walking the walk, living with Christ-like intention.

I have learned more about the gospel by simply shutting my mouth, and listening to his real message. When I talk to others about God...Its quite possible I'm interrupting a conversation between them and God... So My point is this... Bible pounding gets us nowhere. To prove my point... when was the last time somebody came up to you in a coffee shop and shoved the FED-EX operating manual at your face?

Well my friend, shoving the gospel at somebody is no less awkward.

You sound down man, if anything we are all given talents by a higher power, or God or whatever you want to call it. I dont think that a higher power would give you a talent and not expect you to use it in some way.

If you are driven by God then make sure it is in a positive way. As long as you do that, I dont see the problem.

Smile man, its good to me just to wake up in the morning, thats a gift and I try to use it in a positive way everyday!

Well, not so much down on myself, but disappointed in my abilities playing. partly because my professional career has led me away from practice more than I like or need. Living in the styx also makes it hard to get consistent band members. What I've been trying to convey is it is a relief not to stress too much about the little things, or what is larger than myself. My Styx reference is to Miss America. I love that tune.I learned that one in 1982 from a recluse guitar buddy of mine I used to know. You can't imagine how many David Ferguson's there are in the Central Ohio area. I think if we could connect, it would blow his mind to see me play now and vise versa. After he saw my (first) Washburn electric, It was his first store bought new guitar purchase as well. His brother tried to kill him with a hammer some time after he'd got it. He threw the hammer at him, missed but put a hole in his case and guitar, perfect shape of a hammer head! Get good hard shell cases and a good helmet if you have violent family or friends!

Crunchy I saw Styx a couple of years ago and they played Miss America, man that is a wicked sounding guitar line.

As far as being in the Styx I am also, I found for me that when I was down I would turn to my guitar and just try to get better, lately Im going back thru Van Halen I album and relearning all those songs.

As far as Styx, Renegade is another fav of mine, that is a killer guitar solo.

So if you have time go back to some of those classic songs and try to emulate the tone of them, to me thats a positive in the middle of negativity.

Well, Paper, if you're going to be that analytical about one short word that could be used as a musical lyric or bumper sticker, I will refer you to this.. The first thing Jesus said in His ministry career was "It Is Written!". The last words of His ministry was "It Is Finished!" Any more belaboring my point would be argumentative, and you wouldn't get the message anyway. It is just a quip in reference to others whom have used the term "Bible pounder" on this site.

I dont know how that is relevant to anything here, I have a way deeper basis in God than you can even comprehend, but I dont go into that here, cause this is a music site, as I said if you want to talk religion then go to a site for that, as far as music, use your faith as inspiration. Let your faith shine thru the music.

JW , I only have oneproblem with that at this moment, I play acoustic guitar when others in the house are asleep. Right now I'm recovering from shingles, which has give me the time off to play, but my rash is on my right chest where my acoustic imprints my chest. I am extremely irritated to wear even a soft t shirt. I will get back to where I once belong Jo Jo.

I hope your shingles get better where you can play more.

If you cant play right now, you might want to look up chord shapes and such on the internet and figure out how to turn the chords you play upside down so to speak, Ive done this a few times, and its a great exercise for my mind to visualize different chord shapes and then when Im able to play again to put them in action.

If you are writing your own songs, its amazing sometimes how you can take say an open string E Major Chord and then figure out how many ways you can make that one chord or parts of the chord up and down the neck. Try it some time. Then go to another chord and do the same, pretty soon even if you get lost in a song you can figure out how to play whatever you are playing anywhere on the neck. Its great for coming out of leads and and making transitions.

Most of what my message about my thoughts about charisma. My reference has been Ronnie Van Zant. I will give you another. We just got a puppy. He's about 7 weeks old. We've had a Jack Russell for some time. She' about 5yo. No other dogs like her. She's a bitch that doesn't play nice with others. Chewy, (the pup), who looks (and sometimes sounds) like Chewbacka forces himself on Abby and is not feared of her. Attacks her until she submits to playful banter that other dogs have not gotten her to succumb to. He is a gorgeous dog with confirmation desired from champions, even though he's a mutt. Some of us have it from birth. I try to get those here that have it to flaunt it. It is God's gift.

There is a commercial on tv where a guy is singing with presumably his young daughter, Feliz Navidad. He's playing a right handed guitar upside down, and doing what your saying. Slides and all. some one that doesn't play would not see it. That, as we know it is how Jimmy played because heused his father's guitar when he wasn't aware. I will however, look some chords up in my reference book. It will imprint in my head. I should be back to full speed by Saturday, when I go back to work. My boss has been kind enough to give me this time. How could I be down about that, He's also the kind of guy I wouldn't put it past him, he would direct deposit something in my account for my loss.

Kansas opening up for Styx at the (former) Star Lake Ampitheatre, now Post-Gazette Pavillion, on June 7, 1996 was the best concert I've ever attended in my life. I am being 100% literal.

Steve Walsh was out of his f***ing mind that night, doing headstands on keyboards and not missing a note, singing or playing the keyboard! Styx were amazing as well, I believe Dennis DeYoung held the big note in, "Come Sail Away," for just under fourteen minutes...I jest, of course, but it was a long time.

It started pouring down rain during Styx with lightning streaking the sky, and Styx announced that they had been advised to leave the stage, but then Dennis DeYoung says, "But you didn't come here to watch Lightning, you came here to watch Styx," and they went into Mr. Roboto.

It changed my entire life, did that show. I always loved music, but I was too shy to even so much as make eye contact with anyone. Attending that concert made me want nothing more than to be up on stage looking out at everyone watching me in rapture. I suppose chances are nobody ever watched me in rapture, but there have been some people that were moderately entertained by myself (although, probably mostly the band) for most of a night, so that kicks @$$ too.

I was twelve years old, and that concert changed my life forever.

One of the two best concerts I've been to was Styx, opening for REO Speedwagon followed by Def Lepard. Another good concert was Ted Newgent, opening for Deep Purple, followed by Lynard Skynard.

Part of my treatment for the shingles, if you care to know is I've been taking a prescription of some nerve medicine for three days. How is that relevant to you, you ask. Glad you asked. Well, after three days the prescription is increased 3 fold. It's perpose is to repare damaged nerves from the shingles, and this is my first triple. It's hurting like hell, and I've benn awake since 4 am. This is getting nasty. I'm going to opt off this channel because it's made me stir crazy. Please forgive me for any bad posts.Thnx

I have been told Silvadeen ( SP ) cream works wonders on shingles pain.
Usually used for burns.
Most MD's wont prescribe it for such, simply for a lack of experience ... but it works.

The prescription paperwork says not to use any anti-biotics on the effected area as that it will prohibit healing the VIRUS and irritate it. But, thanks anyways. I'm almost past this. tomorrow I go to work.
