I didn't mean to start the whole debate of originals vs. covers. In that other thread I was trying to be realistic. When I was in my 30's I was in a band that had the belief we were going to make it. We had a local record deal recorded an album and played regularly. After years of trying to make it the band got discouraged and broke up. We had put a lot of our own money into the project as well. I enjoyed those days. Playing originals the most money you can make on average is $50.00 a night. Like JW I am playing music on my own terms now. I just feel like that was time wasted in my life. There was so little money involved I even lost a wife over it. She just got tired of being so poor! Originals are great if you keep the whole thing in perspective. In other words don't live life in a false reality (we're gonna make it dude). The truth is there are a million other bands out there trying to do the same thing you are and your chances of winning the lottery are probably better! I have lots of my own music. Someday I will get around to recording it. For now it is not at the top of my priority list. For the most part I don't regret doing the original thing as I learned a lot about the music business.
I wasn't trying to discourage anyone just be realistic about it!
