I'm sorry, but coming on here COMPLAINING about Thanksgiving makes you a wimp and a whiner.
I shouldn't have even born. My mother had two miscarriages before I was born. If she had either I wouldn't be posting here. Despite all my horrible physical ailments, despite my going broke along with most everyone else, despite all the dysfunctional family get togethers, despite all the problems mankind is facing today, I'm happy as a pig in sh*t to sit down for one day and stuff my face with food I love, watch some good NFL games, go fishing, etc. THANK YOU GOD FOR MY VERY EXISTENCE and the wonderful meal I'm about to stuff my face with and THANKS FOR NOT WHINING....
Sorry for whining. I won't do it again. As for me, I wasn't supposed to be here either. Just depends on who does the supposing, I guess. No matter. maybe i'll get a kiss between card hands delivered on the internet to my wife before I go to bed alone, or my Son has something to say to me when he gets up at 3pm. Hey, "lovin' every Minute Of It"! Alright!!

Hey Paperdog, my 2 cents on being a
vegatarian. It's not so much for the
animals lives that are saved, though
that's a nice side benefit, it's more
about I don't want all those steriods
and growth hormones we feed our
food supply. If ther giving that cow a shot
to make it eat more, what's that doing to you?

Happy Thanksgiving Don't spill the wine.

Some do John, it's called tofurkey.

I'm picking up an organic, free-range turkey on the way home tonight from a turkey farm. They cost around $70 but are fantastic!

Lynard... I know and I agree...All those steroids and hormones in the cattle... and chicken and their eggs... The good news is that Grizzly bears and Lions have stopped eating people who eat cows and chickens... ;)

As for the veggies, I'm equally concerned about the pesticides , genetic experiments, etc.. I guess there is no escaping it...

If I had some land, I'd just grow and raise my own veggies and animals... But , Of course I'm likely to make friends with the cow and the chicken...and the turkey, (and I can't kill my friends... )

PS the only wine spilling will be from the bottle into my glass ;)

Holy moly, the smallest one they had was a hen at 26 pounds, which came to $77. They had some toms in the 40+ lb range.

I suppose the first thing that I should point out is that I am not a vegan, I cannot find the strength to resist the irresistible pull of good cheese! Besides that, I'll eat organic, cage-free eggs and MorningStar and Boca soy protein meat substitutes even though they are made with eggs that are not cage free.

I became a vegetarian almost two years ago after watching a PETA special. In all fairness, the actions of PETA often make me embarassed to be associated with vegetarianism, but in any case, I don't care for the way the captive animals are treated or killed.

To be completely honest, I would eat something like deer because it just gets shot and it's game over, the population has to be controlled anyway. The only reason why I don't eat deer is because if you go x amount of time without eating meat it can make you really sick to do so. I don't eat fish, and I'm not quite sure why not.

Anyway, it's mainly just about how the animals are treated at the, "Meat-Farms," rather than any kind of haughty karmic thing.

Dont get me wrong.. I love vegetables and I eat a lot of them. I Also hate the fact the slaughtering must occur in order to enjoy a hamburger (Yes I love hamburgers) . Worse yet, I cant stand the unnecessary cruelty that precedes many of the slaughters. It even disturbs me to think of all the amateur hunters out there who cant take down a kill in one shot, clean and precise.

You basically agree with me on the method of slaughter, then. Clearly we have the same opinion concerning the method of slaughter, it's just that opinion has different implications for us. For me, that opinion compels me to be a vegetarian, and for you, it does not. I have no problem with people who eat meat whatsoever, I'm one of those guys that I don't care what other people do as long as they aren't doing it to me.

The better the hunter, the less I worry about the animals. I'd prefer for them to be killed swiftly and efficiently. What would be worse is a poor hunter where the animal ends up staggering around slowly bleeding to death for hours.

I think about these things and my heart cries for those animals...Then I realize...Our world is so F**cked up that no matter how many vegans you throw in there... There will always be death and cruelty to animals. So, when I eat a hamburger, I give thanks to God, and I tell my self that the cow who died for this, shall not have died in vain.

That's a perfectly reasonable way of looking at it. It's basically just a numbers game to me, if my family does not eat meat, then that is five-ten cows per year that will not have to be bred to eventually be slaughtered and kept in close-quarters confinement for their entire lives. Their technology with respect to breeding is so impressive these days that they can ensure with almost unerring accuracy that they don't breed more cows than will be bought. If less people buy them, less cows will suffer, but it will never be so that everyone is a vegetarian and it probably shouldn't be so or we would all be overrun with wild animals!

With urbanization and population expansion being as they are, there really aren't that many places left in America that could ecologically sustain tremendous numbers of wild animals and they would end up starving out. The extinction of entire species of animals from the country and slowly being starved to death is probably a much worse fate than those animals face now. I guess my decision is basically just to remove myself from the equation entirely, with exception to eggs and cheese. I would also say butter, except I get all of my butter from the Amish who are around here, and they treat their animals very well.

It can't be beat, my house sits upon an acre, half of which spends its time in the summer as one huge garden. It's great for about three months of the year, and the other nine are pesticide-infused crap. Except the squash, my squash crop was so much better than it was supposed to be that I actually took to canning it this year.

If I may be so blunt, sometimes it is not your life that needs changed, but rather your perspective. You're still married and your wife still kisses you, so that's a start!

I just had a conversation with my wife about family dysfunction. How some folks think their family is NORMAL until they hear other people's stories! Personally I don't think there is such a thing as the PERFECT family unless you are a Cleaver! You young folks probably have never heard of the Cleavers as in Ward, June, Beaver or Wally!
What I am trying to say is the world ain't perfect, or fair! So just be Thankful for what you have! Even if you are kin to Eddie Haskell

My friend, my life is perfect. My wife B****es me out constantly for not being home, (except I can't make any money by sitting at home) but she still loves my body even though it weighs 20lbs. more than it did when she married me. My (nearly) four year-old son looks up to me like a Rock God (and he is turning into quite the singer himself) and my four-month old daughter smiles at me with nothing short of complete adoration!

...Life is perfect.

I could look at it as I have to work 65 hours/week to pay the mortgage and keep my family fed, but why would I want to?

J-Haley gets it. Although it was a hole air bag of whining, (admittedly), some peoples problems don't compare. If there is anything good about my little bitch-fest, is that someone may feel they are blessed. I know I don't have a brilliant personality. Some of you do. Those that do and know it may have other issues. It's just my herky-jerky way of saying to those that do but don't have life exactly as they'd like, to appreciate who they are as others see them. It is a gift, and we all don't have it. We as a society used to look at Chevy Chase and just looking at him would make us laugh. It is a quality we can lose, as well as other talents. I am married to probably the most convincing love of my life. For that, I am truly thankful. We don't always just have to be thankful for what we have, but who we are.

I'm not vegetarian but if I were to move in that direction it would be for the reasons you boys have stated here - steroids and growth hormones etc. Yuk.

I have stopped eating much beefsteak and when I do I have a glass of wine with it - helps with digestion.

But I greatly enjoyed that turkey today (we had Thanksgiving today due to people's schedules). I had four grandkids chasing me around all day which wore me out but in a good way.

After dinner we had the 'music show' where the little guys sing through my mic while I strum chords to old favorites like Twinkle Little Star.

Happy Thanksgiving
Talbot

"steroids and growth hormones etc."

Yeah, but would we still be what we are today if we hadn't been consuming them for all these years? Remember? "It's not nice to fool mother nature"
