mr dylan , recording is an ify prop anyway you look at it , while I admire someone who believes in themselves enough to spend the big money on a product. I see alot of merit in buying some equipment as well & most people tend to do both . Most people are using computers these days , I dont ,I used An older digital 24 track (mines a mackie but alesis still makes a similar product) I think I get some pretty good "home " recordings ,. However for good comparison to a pretty good home recording & a good pro recording check my posts & then check 5starrobs posts. there is a difference , but I tend to think home recording is a learning tool that should used regardless.just my opinion !

All American Rejects did an album that had one song that was done in a group, all playing together. You can't really tell a difference in the sound between that and their other songs that were layered. Anyways, I've got a Mac that came with Garage Band, and I'm loving it. It allows you to plug your guitar straight into the computer instead of running it through a whole bunch of effects and amps and stuff. There are several effects built into the program, so you can take the recording and add effects or take them out as needed. Personally I don't like the digital sounds that this program along with several other pedals (line 6 cough cough) give off. I want a crisper cleaner sound coming through to work with.

Phoenix isn't exactly a hot spot for original music either. There are loads for places for cover bands and seems like a handful of places that do original acts.

I know how you feel not being able to find the right people or anyone at that.
I'm going to keep trying because I know that the right people are out there and the rest are either flakes or just don't get you, or like you. But I know what I have to offer and the right people will get it. Perhaps you should feel lucky that they are not wasting your time. Some people just don't see the forest for the trees and can't imagine what would come of the right collective. They seem to want everything there and they just jump in. I've got the insight and experience and I'm a kick ass drummer for the right project when it presents itself. Some are so picky they just miss the boat but I will show them in the end. I've been at the top and will again and I don't have to drop names.
So if you are not too picky you should just go for it and not let your negative side hold you back. I'll kick ass on your songs and help you rock them out.
Good luck,
Louis

I'm also looking for a band with no luck (Well, trying to start one). I'm in Los Angeles going towards Long Beach. If interested, or if you know someone who would be, please don't hesitate. I have rehearsal space as well. 8188022662

Hi Samantha,

I don't know if you are still looking to start a project or not, but I am in your area and have also been having issues finding bandmates! You did not leave up any contact info on your profile page, and I'm using the free version for this site for right now. If you are interested, contact me, miniaturemedusa at hotmail dot com.
I checked out your influences, and the two songs you have up on your profile, and everything seems good so far. Hope to hear back from you.

Where is ol Samantha? She just got two offers from her area! Man, that wasn't hard. Anyways, took me a year and a half to get this band together. I've been in more than one since, but I'm back to one again. Bands are hard to form, and harder to keep together. But, I believe anyone can find a band in due time. May be a long quest, but it can be achieved...keep looking.

That is just ridiculous.

well, ya get what you pay for usually. A recording artist will easily spend that when recording a combo. You can go to a cheaper studio for some functions but you need the "big room" for some stages of an album.

But I listened to her tracks and that's not 5k worth. Maybe she means with covers and a thousand copies? Or maybe they partied too much in the studio and ran up the bill fixing mistakes over and over?

Why is it so hard to put a band together? Because people all have different ideas about what is "cool" or "fun", so you have to find that one thing that unites musicians....money! Otherwise, you're hoping to find people who have the exact same aspirations and direction as you. That only happens in high school from what I can tell.

If you go find some gigs with your 3 song demo, you'll find people willing to go play them. I'd say go spend all day at the music store this weekend....if that doesn't work, go back tomorrow.

That's coming from a guy that stopped waiting for a band 10 years ago and started playing with tracks. I play with musicians all the time...just don't count on them for anything.

Yod

" I play with musicians all the time...just don't count on them for anything."

A telling comment - cut me to the quick. Because I can't count on myself anymore. When I didn't have a family (hostages to fortune) I worked at life and music with a fanatacism I really miss sometimes.

Keeping family fed is a priority I didn't have to face first time around. Plus - first time around as a single man and gutsy player, females thought I was cool. Ladies do like outlaws - at least in the short time.

But this is the long term. My wife thinks I'm a good natured idiot. She finds the music I play to be just plain silly. I try not to let that bother me but I imagine at some level it does. I hope it doesn't impact my playing.
