I've heard a few people give real good kudos to Suhr's Koko Boost box, but I haven't had a chance to dink around with it. Just prodding yur experience and preferences a bit :)

Thanks!

Line 6 head. Pick a channel for lead and boost the old volume by about 40% 8)

For pedals:
Electro Hamonix LDBP-1 works pretty weel, and it's cheap.

This is the little guy I gig with most often these days:
http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/ ... /F-30.html

It actually has two discrete channels with 3 gain stages. "Contour" uses channel 2 and adds hi-gain and scooped mids for EVH tones. Nice to "punch up" heavier rock solos. It is plenty loud to run with a drummer and we just mic it when playing large outdoor shows. Not the amp for everyone but it works for me.

TheJohnny7Band wrote:Lots of different ways depending on what sound I am looking for:

Blues on the edge- I turn down the vol on the guitar for rhythm and then roll it up for solos.

On the edge rhythm and bold 70s solos- set the amp for my rhythm sound and kick in an OCD pedal for solos or fills.

Creamy Santana style sustaining solos- Kick in Mesa Boogie channel 2

Higher gain EVH style bold tone- Kick in Mesa channel 3

With these four different gain stages and different pickup choices I can find most of the boost and tones I am looking for.

Great stuff - thanks for chiming in. I'll have to practice this quite a bit. A big problem I have is I'm the lead singer, the rhythm player, and the lead guitarist. Talk about busy during a song. Juggling - lots of juggling. Now I gotta think about turning those little knobs too?! lol.

No but really - practice makes perfect! Thanks tons!

Sir, being the singer does give you an advantage, you can choke back your volume level either by just playing lighter as Slacker suggested or just roll down the guitar volume knob, then roll it back up for solos or heavy parts. If you practice this over time it will get easier to roll the volume control on your guitar and you will do it without thinking about it.

Strat style guitars are easier in that the volume knob falls under your pinky, whereas LP style guitars are a little harder, cause you have to physically move your hand to alter the volume knob.

If I were you, I would practice by myself singing with the guitar and get in the habit of using the volume knob on the guitar, if you arent doing this already. You will be amazed at the different tones and textures you can coax out of your guitar doing this.

If you ever get a chance go see Jeff Beck, he basically uses a Strat, I think I read he uses an old Pro Co Rat distortion pedal, a couple of 50 watt marshalls, live he can get more tones out of a guitar than anyone Ive ever seen. Hes the man at manipulating the guitar controls in my opinion.

Good Luck, have fun and Keep Rockin

The master! I sat 6 rows from the stage a few years ago and he put on an awesome show.

hey - per the other thread, I thought I would spark up a new one for topic separation a bit. If you use a pedal on state, say a delay pedal, or any other pedal that affects your tone, what would you miss if it broke? :) In other words, do you find you have a pedal or two that you'd hate NOT having on stage with you?

Cheers!

oops - meant to create new topic, but whatever -

I couldnt do without my tuner/or my wah wah.

Dont guess a tuner is an effect but its very important if I get a little over zealous on bends.

I just bought one of those (a tuner) on Saturday :) I bend a bit over the top myself. What kind of wah do you have in your arsenal?

I have a Bad Horsie II , Morley in my board right now. Ive got the first series Bad Horsie also, an old cry baby and a vox.

The bad horsie you just step on and off, dont have to click any switchs.

The II has controls to control the sweep, but heck I just jump on it most of the time! LOL
