Ok, fasten your seat belts and have your barf bag handy!

So I was talking to a guy about helping him to finish his "project" via cakewalk etc. He had a long line of lingo, but hype is easy to recognize these days. I will spare you the gory details.

So I was enthusiastic about helping him out. He indicated he wanted to do a few shows and had people ready to take up his cause.

Ok, so I talk to him further and he gives me examples of what his music sounds like. He cites a Rob Thomas tune, 2 Kelly Clarkson tunes, a Fountains of Wayne (Stacey's Mom) and The Middle by Jimmy Eat World.

So I knew this was going to be interesting to say the very least. I mention to him that pop is very hit or miss. And to emulate an American Idol tune or vocalist is sketchy to say the least.

I like Jimmy Eat World/Fountains of Wayne kind of, but I don't write that. And to force writing of this nature is like being constipated and trying to force that as well. Not a good situation.

I originally agreed to help this fellow for a friend of mine and this guy won't go away. I told him that I would be of little to no help, except with the Sonar Cakewalk and artistically I would be unavailable, as that's not what I hear in my skull.

Regardless I get correspondence daily and he is still trying to pin me down to travel a fairly long way just to finish his "music".

He won't play any of it for me and I would rather be shot..

I showed him what I do and he doesn't like it, but remains adamant. He insists that I can provide the magic band-aid to patch up his creations.

I even sent him to all my "my space" pages to try and dissuade him. I knew he didn't like the acid rock, but I thought sure he would bolt after he heard the Type O Negative project.

How do I pry this guy off the hull without being a jerk?

Is there even a way?

A bottle of wine, a nice fire, maybe some soft jazz on the stereo....and a sincere talk.

That should do it. Let him down gently.

LOL I don't want to date him, I want him to realize I can engineer it MAYBE and that's it.

I won't be writing the bridge, the hook or anything else.

Truth be told, I want OUT! No More weird emails, no more phone calls, no more anything. And I told him just about that so far, he just won't release.

He's like a pit bull with a new chew toy.

Doode, this is an easy one.

Simply relate that competing priorities are such that, you'll need to charge for your time if you are to continue.
And that hourly rate of pay will be $40.00/hour.
That should do it.

Whether do it means,
1) he drops the idea
or
2) you get to make some bux to afford another cool mic for the mic locker.

:)

or some Guinness...

John, I tired that he keeps referring me to his friend and our previous conversation.

Celtic, THAT'S A WONDERFUL IDEA! I never even thought of going the money route. Why, he will no doubt squeal like a pig soon as I say BY THE HOUR!.

Thank you, I am going to leave him a voice mail right now!
