I found a beauty on Craigslist this summer that has become my new favorite amp. It's a '65 Silvertone 1482. Danelectro made these for Sears back in the '60s. It's basically a clone of a '50s Fender Tweed Deluxe circuit. A lot of builders were copying that circuit back then and it's no wonder because it's a great one....dual 6V6 power, tube rectified and this one also has a great sounding tube driven tremolo.

yea 6v6 s have a geat sound for blues , I use a princeton as an alt. amp mike campbell of tompetty uses 2 princeton, I love the older small amps , danelectro , valco ,supro, sivertone , magnatone & no names there are lots still out there cheap!

I have to wonder what this would sound like without the pedals set in front of it.

No disrespect intended to any pedal users.
It's just a quest of mine, or perhaps a desire to know more about " tone " as it relates to guitars, pick ups, and amplifiers.

If I had the cash I would buy every 5 - 15 watt tube amp on the market so I could play them " naked " with various guitars / pick up combination.

I'll know that sound I have in my head when I hear it.
That unique sound that says George is playing the guitar.
I just have an instinct that tells me it's not going to come from any stomp.
Could be mistaken ... but I have learned over the years of painful mistakes that I should trust my intuition in a great many things.

This one just has a touch of EQ from a M108 to brighten it a tad and a little delay from my Echo Park, no boosting. The amp is on 4 with the tone maxed. I'm using a single pole loaded Deluxe Strat.

This is my new project. I picked this old cab up at a " garage sale ".
It had been laying around in an old auto dealership / auto shop garage for about 30 years. It's a dummy cab apparently designed as a store display for CRATE . ( free, just carry it off please, is my favorite price too )
It's the big sister to the old cab we are using as part of our bass / drum monitor set up. She is almost as tall as I am.

I took her down and cleaned her up. Touched up the paint. And washed the mesh. ( the lower cover is not yet reinstalled in the photo )

Not sure yet what I'm going to do with it. Have already ordered feet and removable casters for the bottom and feet for the side.
Me thinks I'll get myself a Celestion V 30 to mount in the top half for my V16 head. And some sort of set up ( perhaps 4 10's ) to make the lower portion a bass cab.

Any thoughts ?

That's a big sucker. I hope you don't gig with that monster.

It weighs less or about the same than my Nomad combo I suspect.

Be really cool to have it set up with a little 12" Celestion in the top.

No one would know it's %99 cab & %1 speaker.

Sans only you know what your hearin in your head , but my advice would be not to discount the use of pedals . almost all of the classis recordings & great artists used them. hendrix , eric johnson, srv ,zz, eric clapton , & on & on . that said there are pedals & there are pedals some sound alot better than others . My impression is that you will sound like you no matter what your signal runs through on the way to the speaker.Just my opinion but I've never heard an amp that didnt sound better with some kind of pedal in front , the alternate would be fx on a loop between the pre-amp & amp. They can be alittle difficult so I always like to keep it simple 1-2 pedals max & i always use batteries to avoid ground loops , but for an effect like echo or chorus you almost have to have a pedal unless you always have a sound person..Just something to cosider Im not tryin to blow my own horn but i do have a lot of years of exp with both equipment & perfomance under my belt & if i can pass some along then it seems a little more worthwhile.heres hopin you find that sound !

Not at all my friend. When I first came to Bandmix I did not know an E string from a G string. And that's not much for exaggeration either.
What I have learned from the more experienced musicians here has been worth way more than the paltry sums I've paid in membership.

Keep the ideas flowing ... I'm all ears.

George, I was watching your video's yesterday and I was BLOWN AWAY by how far you guy's have come! I especially liked Redeemer it has some interesting well thought out things going on instrumentally. I am SO happy for you guys! I envy where you guys are at! Music is new and Fresh eveything is exiting. Take it all in and relish these days because they really are THE BEST DAYS!

Especially pleased that you find some of our music appealing.

We are entering a new phase as a band with the new guitarist coming along nicely.
We had a rhythm group meeting / session last night with the new guy " Jax " playing and singing.
We had had RGM's before but they were never really successful without our vocalist to cue on.
With Jax singing ( and he did a pretty damn good job too ) he was not only able to get a better feel of the NKF Groove as well a enable the rest of us to get in some good fret time ( drummer too )

Just so I'm not totally derailing the thread subject.

My Vintage 16 amp head is working out better than my expectations, which were pretty high to start with.
Very pleased with the purchase.

I bought a 74 champ thinking it'd be great at bedroom volume... WRONG!

great tone thought.

I also bought a valve jr and ripped out the guts and replaced it with a blackface circuit... I like this one even more... but still WAY too loud.

at one point I played a music master bass... that was pretty nice too and often overlooked so you can get a silverface pretty cheap.

Like the old silvertone stuff too... very underrated.

my next endeavor will be either a 1.5watt or 2.5 watt diy build.

If you are looking for a cool club combo, find a early 70s Ampeg VT-10, I think thats the model, it has 4x10s but is super compact around 60 watts, it gets that old Stones Sound, Honky Tonk Women, Brown Sugar, etc

I borrowed one, one night for a 150 seat club and that thing just blew me away, Ive always wanted to get one to have, just never ran into one, but that amp is jewel if you are searching for those kinds of tones.

I was going to buy one but the guy wanted way too much $ for it.

He finally had to drag me off of it, as it sounded sooooo good.

It does Hendrix tones with almost no effort as well.

The 4x10 combo is a VT-40 though I think..

I plugged my LP and wah/tubescreamer in that puppy and it was like molten cream! Great Amp for Cream type material too.

Capt this guy that had it, now get this, I show up to sit in and he says you can use my spare, I said what do you play thru, a Peavey Bandit, and this ampeg is sitting there he said use it. I used to have an Ampeg Bass rig and no not an svt, the old V-4 I think its was. So I plugged my sh*t into that amp and they broke into White Room and gave me the lead at the end and that sob just did it. I wound up playing with these guys the whole night.

When it was over I tryed to buy it from the guy he wouldnt sell it, I offered him 450 for it, said if you ever want to sell it get in touch.

Thru the years Ive run into him here or there and he still never played it played thru wahtever else he had. He plays bass with another band now and they opened a show for us and afterwards I talked to him. He hardly ever used that amp and hot water heater busted and basically ruined it, so he gave it to some guy.

Man what a wasted amp that was, I could have made that puppy sing for a few years.

If i found a decent one I would still give 3-400 for one, but the ones Ive seen are higher than that on ebay and craigslist
