Gates and Jobs both took existing ideas and made them profitable. That's as American as it gets.

BTW, did you know Jobs had a child out of wedlock? I think they named her Blow.

They were the Stones and Beatles friends and nemesis all in one. Gates even put 150 mil. into Apple when they got into some financial trouble in the 90's. Good return on his $$$ I'll bet.

Apple's Success only took off recently (relatively speaking). If you ask me , the stock is way over valued. Tells me it's more hype than the real deal , and a classic sign of market volatility. Microsoft, has stabled out over the last decade, meaning, its less volatile and thus you can rely more on a long term return on the stock.

Watch how Apple takes a huge dive in its value over the next 6 months. At this writing ...here is the latest quote: 371.79 -5.58‎ (-1.48%‎) This is Today. Yesterday it dropped a few points. I believe it will continue dropping steadily over the next QTR

New CEO has huge shoes to fill.. It wont happen ala perfection... Never really does.

Cook will have to announce an early release of whatever is currently in the hopper ... in order to close the gap back up. In the meantime, the heavy hitters are bailing because they knew all along that Apple rode a bubble. With Jobs gone, The bubble has popped. They are cashing out before the new CEO makes mistakes... After the dust settles, the stock will stabilize. And if Cook can uphold Apple's integrity, the stock may rise again (more proportionately to the actual economy and not to some bubble)

In the Words of Dennis Miller... I could be wrong :? 8) [/b]

PD,
I would expect a decline with the loss of Jobs. But Apple has a very devoted following almost cult like.
Like I said I'm no Apple snob, but user of their products don't stray. No one has come up with a better alternative to snatch the Apple buyers away. I think they'll be fine.
In my home we have 3 laptops, 2 Iphones, at least 4ipods and one Ipad. Billy G's not making anything that will replace any of these items... but Apple will eventually.

But of course... I also could be wrong.

I LIKE MAC. Sorry but firing up Logic Pro is easier than threading a 2 inch tape into a recorder.
I started with PC, and win98. Very frustrating with programs like CAKE walk and constantly trying to get outboard gear to mesh.

Even Microsoft is much better today, but the reason is the competition between these two majors.

ME,for what I do, I'm a MAC. Thanks Steve.

jimmydanger wrote:What a load of BS Glenny. He was no rock star, and he sure couldn't be compared to the legends you just abused. He was a visionary and great inventor but he was also an abrasive, hard to work with college drop out who died very rich and too young. The things he invented are great but would have been developed by someone else if not him, so give it a rest.

How the heck did I abuse those legends? Ringo Starr kept his mouth shut when he came in and found Paul had personally redone some drum tracks, how is that for hard to work with? Abrasive, because you want to succeed? College drop out, I know to many brilliant people, that would say WHAT FOR. If you just want to be a sheep in the major cogs of someone else's vision than I guess that is very important.

As far as someone else inventing it, it will never be known, but then again you could say the same thing about all the other shooting stars, that have brought great things and advancement to all mankind.

You sound jealous Jimmy, he was a ROCK STAR. A real ROCK STAR.

The primary difference between Apple And Microsoft

APPLE
1. Superior Graphics:
2. Superior Media Processors (DUe to hardwired integration in the machine).
2. Inferior Business applications

MICROSOFT
1.Inferior Graphics... (Due to platform dependent cards in the machine)
2 Almost superior Media Processors
2. Superior Business Apps (MS Office, SQL Server, App Dev Studios... )

To further spell it out:... Apple is for the right -brained customer, who tends more often than not to lack technical prowess (in the real sense of that word). Engineers, Comp Scientists, SW developers, Business Analysts typically gravitate to PC / Windows

On the other hand, Artists, Social workers and left wingers gravitate to Macs .. Its the delicious Eye Candy that Apple products provide... ( I was kidding about the left wingers... Actually, many of them know UNIX, which kicks both Mac and PC 's ass. Unix...run by left wingers who refuse to accept that the Vietnam war is over... )

Steve Jobs , himself was minimalist, and was quoted as saying that his design concepts purposely avoided complexities ("Featuritus"). This would explain unequivocally, why Macs are not preferred in most corp environments. If you ever worked in a Bus Corp, its all about how F**cking complicated you can make a task...to keep your job ( Unions are the same the same way, lest anyone cite class warfare here... White-Collar, Blue Collar...PCs help people stay employed)

At the end of the day, Its NOT that One is better than the other... Its really more about Comparitive Advantages. Simply put, we dont bring a knife to a gun fight and we don't bring a mac to an FTC committee session. Likewise, We don't bring a PC to redo the hues on "Yellow Submarine" or the killer effects on the "Chronicles Of Narnia"...BTW The THING remake is coming out soon.

Also... since no one had mentioned... his creation of Pixar. Even though he bought the company from Lucas, he made it what it became.
After he got a hold of it he was able to turn it into a 7 billion dollar company that Disney had to have. Toy story, finding Nemo, A bugs life,etc...

EEEHHH, Lets get rid of Apple, Lets tax them at 100 %. We can knock of off the deficit,,, 2 trillion right off the bat. Better yet, let's just tax the rich, and confiscate all their personal property. LOL. Forget those pesky unemployment numbers that will go to 15% in a month or 2 if something like that happened. The temporary gains will far out weigh permanent damage, by that time elections will be over.
Oh and let's forget the constitution that basically said in our country, the USA, it is O.K. to live and prosper and accumulate wealth. The Christian Bible says the same thing. You don't like it them renounce your citizenship and move to Cuba, NORTH KOREA, Iran,,,, the list goes on and on.LOL!!!

Klugmo,, Talk about spitting into the wind.

(if you noticed, I'm trying to be nice, and go a roundabout way, about one of the threads you started) Cause I like you. :)
