Many cash-strapped communities across Metro Detroit cannot afford to replace aging sewage systems that have dumped a combined 80 billion gallons of raw and partially treated wasted into local waterways over the last two years, according to a startling report from the Detroit Free Press.

While the problem is widespread, Detroit is the worst offender, dumping 37.2 billion gallons of sewage into the Rouge and Detroit rivers the last two years.

The Michigan Citizen points out that Councilwoman JoAnn Watson raised the issue at the council's first meeting of the year, charging that Detroit's Wastewater Treatment Plant is pouring sewage into the Detroit River that could reach drinking water, requesting "an urgent response" and demanding immediate installation of new equipment.

Sewage overflows, which typically occur during rainy periods, have led to a rash of E. coli spikes in local waterways, closing several beaches for extended periods last summer.

Problem is, fixing the problem could prove too costly for many municipalities. The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments tells the Free Press fixing the issue across the region could cost $30 billion to $52 billion.

You know when I was in school many years ago one of the history
teachers catch phrases to use was"melting pot". It seems to me that
many problems now are because of that idealism. When you allow
everyone in and also allow them to bring and practice so many
different cultural items. I believe you fragment the American culture
itself. No wonder the Constitution is being warped and the original purposes are fading. Morals are disolving and the importance of
parenting is all but gone. Instead the importance of the vote has
taken over. If you can control votes, you are king in this country.
The idealism of right & wrong is not a factor anymore. A child
raised with no morals, no work ethic, no sence of right and wrong
and suported by over indulgent boomer parents will bring this country
to its knees in the future. They will be easily swayed by those in

every day you can see what I am talking about on TV, Internet and

Regardless, the term carries interesting predicates . I do in fact associate "white bread, mayonnaise eating" as a descriptor of pneumatic, sterile character, much like we find in boy scouts like Mitt Romney, Dan Quayle, John Edwards and the like. They are so disgustingly clean that they are actually dirty. I mean, its guys like that, who invented "Knicker-Bocker" soup and arguile socks...
