The plastic handle on my Les Paul case broke last night. It's 33 years old so I guess I got my money out of it. I cant really just give up the case, been an old friend for to long. The question is should I just cut the liner and pop the rivets to replace it or does any one have a more creative idea? Sounds stupid, and (yes I could go out and just buy a new case), I don't give up old friends and besides I can remember where every nick and scar came from.

Any Ideas?

Oh by the way the garage band I have been working are starting to snap a bit. They saw me grab real fast when then handle broke. All night they were poking fun at ourselves,,, we are now the "BROKEN HANDLE BAND"

Here is what I'd do.

With either some long leather boot laces or strapping available at most feed / tack stores like ATWOODS ...

Or some heavy para cord.

I'D loop multiple layers through the metal mounts to a thickness I was happy with.
Then I would, using the same type of material do some lashing around the center section to form a handle.
You could even use some of the good rubber electricians tape as a matrix for the lashing to bind onto.

I have done this many times on various projects.

I recently handled a Cern Sao Do ( two hands sword ) I wrapped for my Sifu this way ten years ago.
It is still intact, as is my Katana I repaired twenty years ago.

Wrapping the metal mounts with electricians tape would be a good idea as well ... will prevent cut through of the new handle.

Drill the rivets out and get some leather.[/b]

Try to order another handle from Gibson?

Look for suitcase handles at the Goodwill or other second hand outlets. They always have beat up suitcases real cheap.

Glue it to the back of your favorite vest and wear it to the gig?

Thanks guys, you really are the best with creative solutions. I just bought a new case for the mean while. I took a good look at the original case and,,,

It really was falling apart. Padding gone, wood split, seams showing through, I was actually having dreams about this. Sick, just Sick.

Just make sure there isn't any illegal plywood in it.

Funny but that is the old case in my picture, The balance was always wrong.

I left my old friend in a new home over night. Even though I thought I was trying to do the right thing with new protective policies for my guitar, it immediately rebelled. I plugged in and the tone was nasty. Every string was out of tune, and my promise of free strings for life went unheeded.

People say it's just a piece of wood. Even my wife wouldn't pull this sort of...

Now I really don't know what to do. I'm gonna make my guitar go stand in a corner for the day.

Yes, I have studied the sword in Traditional and non traditional Chinese martial arts, and under two different Sifu.
The Book of Five Rings was a required read and I have read it many times in the last 20 years.

But to be fair, I also have trained extensively with many of the Chinese and Japanese origin weapons. As well as firearms, defensive, and offensive entry.

Still, I love a good blade.
The sword holds a special place for me.
