Hi all,

I would just like some advice and tips really. I have an open mic night organised on Thursday and I'll be singing on stage for the first time. I've never done anything like this before and I am so worried.

Does anyone have tips or advice for me? I'm singing three songs and I know it doesnt seem like a big deal but it still doesnt stop me worrying.

Also is there a way I should be practicing. I've been recording me rehersing so I can listen back to myself and today I practiced for three hours, is there anymore I should be doing?

Thanks for any help you can give me,

Kirsty - A very nervous singer looking for a band.

Have fun ... that's the most important thing. If you look and sound like your sincere and are having fun then the crowd will have fun too.
Smile at mistakes, they are going to happen and just move along.

I focus to go on stage just the same way I used to focus to go into a fight.
Cant be concerned with the what if's . There is no time for that.
Be ruthless, be in the now, and all will be well.

Best wishes.

Hello again sanshouheil =)

Thank you for your reply.

I'm so nervous and I'm scared I'll get there and completley screw up. And I'll be so nervous that I wont be able to have fun. As I havent done anything like this before I dont know how I'm going to react in that situation.

Thank you for your advice, I'll try and keep it in mind when I'm on stage.

I totally agree with sanshouheil.

That's exactly the right attitude to have.

Your nerves and fear are a natural reaction. In fact many famous entertainers suffer from stage fright or performance anxiety. If you google the subject, you'll find advice on how to approach this.

“Walk through your fear with faith. And you never let the fear of failure become the cause of failure.”

As an aside, our band are looking for a female vocalist, you are more than welcome to come to one of our gigs to see how we do it and have a chat about singing. You could even get up a do a number or two if you fancy it. We have a friendly following and the more you perform in public, the easier it becomes to deal with the nerves.

Good Luck

Yes ... fear is a tiger.

You can ride him to victory, or be devoured ... you are at choice.

I used to teach my fighters that the energy from fear is natural and good.
It is up to the individual what he or she does with it.

Bring your Shure SM-58 or Shure Beta 58 Mic so the sound man has the least amount of problems.

Thank you all so much for your advice it has really helped and I love:

"fear is a tiger. You can ride him to victory, or be devoured ... you are at choice."

I've never thought of fear in that way, I've always thought of it as a negative emotion and I should try any way I can to get rid of it.

It's great to here from expereince :D
