Well After a valiant attempt to assemble support for my recording Project..Today, the reality stared me in the eye...

I came to realize... I actually don't know what the f**k I am doing.

I have appealed to many different local musicians, I have cursed and ranted, begged and sacrificed...All to no avail... I just couldn't stand the lethargy and lack of support anymore... So I told Drummer Dan, the project was off.

He was understanding and said about our local scene "...Its absolutely absurd that we couldn't find a bass player." The sentiment about our local scene is no surprise, but Drummer Dan's statement got me thinking... It really couldn't be the fault of the local scene, Because he is right... How hard could it really be to get a bass player on board? Technically it should never be as difficult as what I have experienced.

So Now, I'm inclined to believe that maybe I just plain suck at this music thing... More to the point, I'm not "attractive" enough (musically speaking) to draw and keep the interest of other musicians...

So, I scrapping my project for now... am going to try and put myself out there on stage as a solo lone bloke. The goal is to get seen and heard, build some cred that way. I think of it as a perpetual audition on my part until the right folks step up and ask me... (Sort of me becoming a 'fly-trap', instead of trying to hunt down the flies)

Its a plan anyhow...well see

Tenacity is the key word here Dog! The one thing in the music biz that became PAINFULLY CLEAR to me around about 1978 was you have to have the patient of a SAINT to get anywhere in this buisiness! If YOU believe in yourself and your music feels real to you then YOU MUST be willing to start over and over again to fall down pick yourself up by the bootstraps and start back at SQUARE ONE as many times as it takes. You must be RELENTLESS like the terminator! I'll BE BOCK!

I never let this kind of thing stand in my way.

I was taught by my Sifu to be ruthless in my intent.

Too many people don't understand the term ruthless and immediately apply some negative connotation.

Therefor you will oft see me mention tenacious as a state of being.

Be tenacious my friend or better yet be ruthless in your intent.

Thank You J, I totally get that and tenacious I shall be... I believe everything you say to be true about starting over. I've noticed that in the grand schema, if one is consistent, then over time, the law of probabilities has it, that some things WILL change to a favorable direction... And like you said...patience...Its a waiting game while we are busy honing the craft...

Right On Sans... For me, the ruthless part comes by reminding myself and others that I aint dead yet, and I aint quitting the core effort. In my case I suddenly realized I have to change my strategy. The Time issue... I have eradicated any sense of deadline now...which allows me to think clearer. I'm more inclined to react spontaneously and seize opps by the handful...now that I am 'free" of my own arbitrary project framework. So its off to the cafe ...to piss off a barista with my songs... LOL!

fgfdfff, sorry I was trying to get a piece of hair off my keyboard. DOG, if you start with nothing and you wind up with nothing, then you have lost nothing.

But at least you have followed the greatest truth, you lived, you tried. You tried, well go try again.

Once you don't depend on anyone else to create music that you enjoy, you are going to find that it was challenge worth meeting.

I can see both sides of it... IF I had a musical 'mate' , I'd be inclined to expect some special effort. But for an average collaboration, I would just ask that each player throw in what they do best... (how hard could that be, right?)

I'm pretty sure that where I am, its more of an exception than the norm for local musicians to find chemistry, bond and make awesome music as a team.

It seems that locally...Everybody and their mother excels at cover acts...(typically narrowed to classic metal and hard rock) and so, That's our local market.. I am fine with that...

But I am not aware of any support for anything outside of that box, such as songwriters efforts, Bands with viable original material, etc. Every so often some local band or individual cuts a CD/EP... That is precisely what I was originally attempting. Nobody That I am aware of, seems to have the desire to play in that sandbox.

That Open Mic session I'm attending in a few weeks, actually hosts more slam-poets than musicians. In a way That's good for me , cause I'll stand out more. But it just illustrates what creative musicians are up against.

So, This gives me some ideas... Actually thinking of sponsoring a bonafide Songwriting Original material /performance contest. I believe there is a lot of talent, There are venues that I know will support it, if they can gets some eco bennies for it.

Dog, I actually would pay any player willing to come in and able to lay down some good trax. Specifically DRUMS.

My garage band, FRIDAYS, have gotten so much better that they are talking about playing out. They don't realize that the drummer has gotten back to what he may have been. I have been pushing him hard. Still not my drummer.

My Wed band I have a great bass player. The drummer is a bit rusty, again it comes down to the drums. The other guitar has a bigger ego than playing ability. The only way to control that is "CAN YOU PLAY THIS?"

I just started a Sunday band. Nice guys ETC ETC etc....

The point is just don't give up. You can remind me of these words and kick my butt also.
