Having lived there and hearing the hype, and it not being as bad as they said it would. I know only too well that some places along the coastline will have been badly hit.

Anyway, just to wish you folks well, and hope things get back to normal again soon.

Hi Chris, fellow human being, and good friend.

From what I'm hearing this is exactly correct. I know a few that are without power. It wasn't the strength, just the water as usual.
I had 4 twisters in my yard in NJ, so I know what sudden weather patterns do, not to mention something of this nature having been there for many years.

I hope no one thought this was a pun message, like I said. I've lived through them.

Glad you are ok, sorry to hear about folks around you too.
Good job your gear was ok, I lost a lot of stuff in my old basement exceeding $2000 and didn't get a penny for it.

Once again, glad you are ok, speak to you soon on some other place we both infrequent from time to time.

Wow AW, what a freak storm has done to you folks. It wasn't even a hurricane.

Hope you guys are are o.k. I will not make light of any of the hardship this has imposed, I'm just a bit amazed.

Now think of "rita" followed by "katrina" I saw the devastation a year later.
And remember "andrew" blew through Homestead. Friends died in that. It was LEVELED.

This was nothing, always count your blessings.

I feel your pain east coast. Ike came right thru Houston. I live very close to Galveston and it tore the heck out of our house. The day the hurricane hit August 13 2008 the stock market crashed and the downward spiral of our economy was the headline news. Since a large portion of the country love to hate Texas and the meltdown taking place no one gave a crap about Galveston and Houston. 2 years before that Rita was HELLBENT on Texas. Since Katrina had just happened the year before everyone here in this area (about 7 million people) decided to evacuate. Folks that is a physical impossibilty. That was far more dangerous than riding out a cat 3 hurricane. Evacuating from Rita was the WORST NIGHTMARE of my life. Have you folks ever see a 200 mile traffic jamb? I am glad I took my 9 Mil. with me. I thought I was gonna have to use it several times.
I have lived thru 3 Hurricanes. Carla a week cat 4, Alicia a strong cat 3, and Ike a strong cat 2. I would not wish a hurricane on my worst enemy! for those of you that have experienced one it is an event you remember for the rest of your life. Just the same as 9/11, or when JFK was assasinated. these storms are RELENTLESS, the sound of 100 plus mile per hour winds will scare the hell out oof you. The best way I can describe it is being in a tornado for 14 hrs.

Hey Glen! I can't believe it didn't effect you! you live only a town away from me. We are now on our 5th day of no power and the mess of tree limbs in our yard and neighborhood is humongous! You definitely lucked out. We had to throw away tons of food in fridge and freezer and finally borrowed a generator yesterday so we can at least get the fridge back up and watch some tv... wot sucks is the amount of gasoline this thing uses! Our local gas station is closed also due to no power.... It's a freakin' mess STILL here in Port Jeff Station!

Some of the things we always do to prepare for a hurricane.
Fill the bathtubs with water for flushing toilets with a 5 gallon bucket. Fill as many containers with water for drinking as you possibly can.
Fill freezer bags and other containers & put in the freezer to freeze as much Ice as possible.
board up windows.
we always keep batteries for flashlights and radio on hand.
move musical gear and other valueables to 2cd floor and cover with a tarp
I can not stress enough how important it is to have FLOOD INSURANCE. its a no brainer. Even if you live in a 100 year flood zone chances are you WILL see water in your house during your lifetime.
After it passes you can count on not having power for at least a week. After Ike passed there were folks down here that didn't have power for months. Always use up your perishable foods first after the power goes out and only open the fridge and freezer when absolutely necessary.

Paterson is still a mess
I lucked out, I live on a cliff overlooking the Hudson River . . . just got a lot of wind.

In central NJ, we lost power for 12 hours and the local river overflowed like it always does.

10 miles away though, they STILL don't have power.

It just makes you wonder..
