Pretty diverse actually, but that's the best thing about rock and roll. Rock ranges from ballads like Wonderful Tonight and Bryan Adams' "Heaven", to simple 3 chord basic rock like CCR and George Thorgood, to spacy stuff Pink Floyd did, to the classical/renaissance based music of Tull to things like Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Judas Priest...quite a diverse style of music. No other genre shows that kind of diversity.

But just like anyone who listens to any genre, I'm willing to bet they all can think of individual artists and/or songs they can't stand. SRV sounded like crap to me long before I knew who it was I was turning off. Hated Linda Rondstandt first time I ever heard her around 1968-70 or so. Liked a couple of Rolling Stones songs, but very few, most just didn't do a thing for me.

Other people love those bands and artists. That's their choice, I try not to knock their taste in music. If that's what you like, by all means listen to it. And just because I don't like a band, doesn't mean they are no good. Linda Rondstandt, for example, is a very good singer. I just can't stand her voice, it's like chalk on a blackboard to me. SRV was a good guitar player, I just didn't like him and didn't think he was anywhere near as great as most people thing he was. I thought he was mediocre at best and his voice sucked. I've checked out several of your videos on youtube, most are great, there was one I didn't like much at all. Can't remember what it was...I love "I Gots to Know", I've played it for a bunch of people. Great song/video. Ditto for "No Matter What". Love it, you and Jimmy did a great job. But one just didn't do a thing for me, can't remember which one though..

I'm sure some people hate bands I think are great. That's their choice, they are entitled to their opinions. I don't worry much about it. If I know you can't stand Jethro Tull, I just won't play any of my Tull CD's if you come over for a visit.

I am finally old I didn't know any of those songs. I had kept up with all the new songs in pop rock and country up until the past year or so.

So I was curious and am youtubing these songs.

Bruno Mars - grenade is actually a really good song. Starts strong with piano. it has good dynamics and it doesn't sound totally canned or artificial. It sounds organic. The singer can actually sing really well. I can tell when a singer doesn't need autotune. He is a true singer. Check the "bullet straight through my brain" line. It is emotionally charged adn shows great vocal talent IMO. I'm not surprised. Good music comes from EVERY generation.

I didn't know Brittany still had a career. especially since she has like a one octave range and a very mediocre voice overall. But there she is on that list.

That's a list full of good music. I do love Linda Ronstadt though. And though I don't particularly like Tull I can't recall saying anything bad about them. But who's that neanderpaul guy?

Mick and Keith come from a completely different time from today, but go back and listen to how much personal information they gave away with all their little "ditties", Satisfaction, Honkey Tonk, Time,,,, They are as good if not better than the peers they started out with.

I thought Layla was a great song. I heard it on a crappy transistor radio by the pool. That summer, It was lots of swimming , water polo, tuna fish sandwiches, Koolaid, teasing and harassing the cute girl next door (we were both ten, I think) and no school for 3 1/2 months. Layla was my anthem that year... Good times, good memories.

Right! And a little known fact... Keith Richards is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge surrounding rock n roll and its history, from its birth, through to the present. There is virtually no question he cant answer about each and every player in the industry....from the well-knowns to the un-knowns. He can tell you all about the musical roots, the cultures involved how they arrived to what they innovated ... He's really 'that good', because he really has the full passion for it.

Fergie sang the "Rape, murder It's just a shot away" lines with Jagger and U2 as the band at the R&R Hall of Fame anniversary show a few years ago. It gave me chills.
