I have another good one.
I went to an audition yesterday and it was a few older guys playing straight blues. I asked the guy I spoke to if he had listened to my music and he said he had. He then told me that since it was a paying gig, I could just tone it down and we could make some cash together. (makes stink face)
So far so good? ok
Well, in the samples that he sent me there was a female singing. (cracks a smile) She was ok, I guess. I wouldn't have thought anything about the way she sang. I thought it was passable.
So he had told me they were replacing her. So I thought that this had already happened, right>? WRONG. lol
She shows up at the jam and her eyes got really big right in the middle of an impromptu version of "Roadhouse Blues" and she jumps up on the stage and takes the mic out of my hands, throwing it to the floor.
I KNEW this was a bad situation, so I just backed the hell up and put my hands up, in case she started to swing. I then retreated down to front right and took a seat for "the show".
Next thing I know, the leader and this woman are having a big discussion and it's coming in a little over the mic. It's heated let me tell you.
Now, you know I like a little drama, but this was crazy. I was entertained though. The bass player was cracking me up. The woman was basically trying to negotiate for her job, while the band leader was telling her softly she was gone. Meanwhile this bass player is starting to play softly. I was getting into it./ lol It was really groove and reminded me of "The doors".
It culminated with her losing her sh*t and screaming that they all screwed her over and what a bunch of MFing pricks they were etc.
Right before the climax, the keys player joined the bassist and he's jaming on it, really low like. She's looking around, pissed as hell, but didn't say anything to them.
I was losing it. I was laughing a little, out of embarrassment and yet at the same time, I wanted to get my strat and plug in.
So finally she cries all over the place, picks up the mic and whacks the one guy right on the head with it? (not really sure where she hit him) And storms out, exit stage front. (it made a nice noise when she hit him too)
A little bit after, I just picked up the mic, they continued the jam and we pumped out some of the better variations on a Doors theme I have ever heard.
My nerves were on fire, my brain was smoking and I was smiling so hard, my face hurt. I thought we had something good, right?
Guess again, that guy called me this am. He said that although we have good chemistry, he wants the band to be a straight blues band and not what he viewed when we jammed. In addition, he has decided to take back that female singer that struck him with the mic.
I just wish I had a recording of that..LMAO I'd upload the whole thing.
It was awesome. (laughs deeply)
