But I like my mutated stuff. Some do recognize the music we play and I see it in their eyes. The reaction is what I play for.

We played a sorority at Halloween. ( a story in of itself) When we did one tune in particular the girls went nuts, as they had never heard it played that way. ( I never do it exactly as it was recorded, as in any tune I play.) But the light came on behind the eyes.

I like to prep a night with tunes they may or may not get and then throw in just a couple of songs that are original. At the end, that's when I get the question and answer portion. They generally say they recognized this one or that one, but what was one of the last 2 and that's when I tell them, "that one you liked but didn't recognize, that's an original".

Besides, the mutated stuff is almost more fun. I can't tell you the mileage I have gotten out of that MY FRIEND 222 version. It's pathetic, but it works. ( I mention it's for 2nd regiment 2nd battalion 2nd marines, as my buddy got greased hard on tour with them. WARLORDS never die, they go to hell to regroup )

I slapped up a my space page, as I have a prospect to play bass. He was moaning about my genre, that is why i did it. In less than a week, it has really gone manic. Now he is a believer and wants to get with the program.

Oh and improv? lol This is why i do not smoke or drink before I have to play. I have been known to drop a verse and just completely make it up.

For instance, I dropped a piece of chorus at Halloween.
The chorus goes,

Sometimes it's not so easy,
'specially when your only friend
looks and sees and feels as you do,
you do the same as him.

they got,

Sometimes it's not so easy,
'specially when the weather is sore
For the skipper and Gilligan and the professor too,
it was supposed to be a 3 hour tour

No one even batted an eyelash and I switched back on the next time through. Crowds are stupid as hell.

Even though it may be a cover, it's really not very close. And I have a fear of not having good completely original materials at my fingertips when I really need them. You might say I am am saving the best for last.

And I am never paralyzed./ lol

Anybody that covers Bridge of Sighs is cool by me. Do you do the wind sounds live?

I cut my teeth on Trower, used to play half of that album. Day Of The Eagle was my signature song for years, in fact a lot of people thought I wrote it.

Your set list is eclectic, I guess thats the word. As long as you entertain folks and they like it, what difference does it make what you play.

As far as lyrics, one of the best singers I ever worked with changed the words to every song we did. This one place would give me hell cause he didnt sing the words to "Crazy Train" right. On the other hand most people never knew the difference.

Good Luck.

jimmydanger wrote:Funny! But just because it's acoustic doesn't mean it's folk, or lame. Check out the tunes on my profile; they're acoustic but definitely not folk.

Cool songs,
