I am only one man, but this one man (who is unemployed, so much for BP's help), would rather be unemployed in protest (which I'm not), than to pay more in taxes per every dollar I earn to go to barons that will shirk their share in this great country. Letting the rich off easy so that we may have jobs is equivalent to this: Let robbers come into my house so that they can prosper. With enough thieves breaking in, we will support police to keep them out of our homes, and of course, firefighters to put out the flames the thieves created to cover the evidence. We'll need teachers to give the young the knowledge that robbery and arson is wrong. Thieves are good, they create infrastructure. When caught in the act, pat them on the back, say to them "good job, if it weren't for you..." As an American citizen we should pay the greater proportionate value, and we should be glad we have a job as police officers (now getting laid off) to protect the infrastructure the little guy pays for. The citizen should be glad to pay 26% from their paycheck so that the rich can "earn" more so that I can have a job in this "trick"-le down economy. The ones selling petroleum should not pay to a scale the carriers that take it to the market have to.They pay before they see their checks, so they won't notice. They'll pay when they go to the pump, but they're used to it. A man that has to go 45 miles for work should live closer to employment, live in the city they are laying off police officers. Near a refinery so that he can put up with the smell the rich don't have to, so he can get to work in a vehicle he pays another 30% tax on to pay for wars his son is engaged in because he doesn't have the privilege to go to college to become a CEO of a lazy, greedy paying less, taking home more Corporation. In my lifetime, I probably won't earn .0001th of a percent of a BP exec. bonus for one year. We need infrastructure, one with backbone.

I wonder how much of the $20 billion that BP was supposed to compensate people along the Gulf Coast? For that matter as soon as that leaking well was "killed" we haven't heard hardly any PR about it. What long term damage has the Gulf suffered? There was also supposed to be an accelerated re-opening of oil wells to increase supplies. The release of the strategic oil reserves was supposed to lower gas prices as well. I don't believe any of these has happened. The oil giants MANIPULATE the market. There's nothing apparently we can do anything about it, especially the President. The only way is a grass roots BOYCOTT. Boycott BP. Whenever and wherever possible walk or use public transportation, carpool, bicycle. I'd like to see a national effort at true conservation. Reducing speed limits can effect significant fuel savings. Kansas doesn't have vehicle inspections. As much as I like that I think every state should have vehicle inspections that are tougher on emissions. Everybody sould get on the web and research gas additives which can significantly increase gas mileage. Everybody should kep their tires properly inflated. The United States should invest heavily in public transportation with the caveat that all forms of transportation are MANUFACTURED IN THE U.S. States that have oil reserves should be allowed to have THEIR OWN REFINERIES and THEIR OWN gas companies. BP making an obscene profit is in reality of our own ineptness in federal legislation NOT utilizing OUR OwN resources in an effective way.

Some blame must be placed on employers who could allow telecommuting for some of their workers but don't, simply because they don't trust their employees. My job requires little interaction with people, and could easily be done from home. But I'm forced to use several gallons of gas everyday commuting. Such a waste.

That's wonderful news. Just think of all those municipal pension funds, and state state pension funds that own BP are going to remain solvent after all.

that sux to me cause I unloaded all my stock a couple of years ago, LOL

Sadly our country is basically everyone for himself when it comes to long term money, so I would advise anyone to take care of themselves as best they can, cause when some of us retire there wont be much for us to get,

Welcome to the bandwagon Bob. I've been boycotting oil companies by not hauling fuel. From spigot to spout, diesel fuel could make a profit at maybe $1.20 a gallon, oil co's gain. At $3.00 a gallon for sludge that machines just happen to be able to run on, it is not a matter of producing jobs, but to inhibit those from having them by killing the little guy in favor of the big one. All of the news you hear about why fuel prices are high are short lived, just to get you to accept the facts- fuel prices are high. In the spring they'll tell you that the summer blend costs more to produce. Then in the late fall they'll tell you fuel will cost more because of the "fuel line freeze up" inhibitors that will keep you going in the cold. Which is it? Why don't we see a price reduction in the spring or fall? Can you remember that stupid noise that comes on your radio channel with their "Guaranteed no fuel line freeze up or we'll pay your tow". This is a National web, so, I'd like to ask all Americans on this site if there is Any of you that has had their car towed at BP's expense? In the winter, commercial trucks have to put in their tanks an additive I don't care what pump it comes from. It's made from petroleum, but an added expense fuel companies don't have to deal with.

Crunchy the one thing Ive learned in life is not to spend too much time worrying about things that I have no control over, I just know the things that I can control and I keep the empty space between my ears focused on that, what I can control.

That is one of the best skills Ive learned, LOL, plus the ability to agree to disagree.

Good Luck

I get what you're saying. It's just the commercials on TV are focused on John Boener's catch phrases, meanwhile, putting a twist on what was said by him And Obama. Go ahead and call your Congressman and give him hell. They're saying that will help! P.S Don't make money unless it's in the billions of dollars- then it's ok- And we won't tax you much for it. We'll make up for it from the DREAMERS!

I started the day the well blew. Saw the news story, listened to the propaganda the BP reps were spouting and decided BP could join Exxon.

Remember the Exxon Valdez oil spill years ago? An Exxon "representative" was interviewed on TV and was asked about the cost of the cleanup. He blithely replied "Ohh, we'll just pass the cost on to our customers." I stopped being a customer that moment, haven't spent a penny on Exxon ever since, with the unfortunate exception of one night at 3AM after a gig, needed gas and Exxon was the only place in the very small Louisiana town that was still open. So Exxon got $10. So, I've spent exactly $10 with Exxon since the oil spill on the pacific coast, which was how many years ago??? You can bet BP will get no more than that either.

You know Crunch, It is not at all that I DON'T hear what YOU are saying. The bull that gets bantered around is out of control. The only words that come to mind is thank God I don't count on any other living person for a paycheck. The greatest freedom I have is that I can go out and hunt for money. That is my paycheck. When I fail I go hungry. BUT,, I am free. Right now the only thing I see is a government that wants to tame my testosterone driven, ready to fight , free spirited, mean spirited, fair spirited ,God loving, Family loving, Love of a great entrepreneurial country that was set up by some Men that had no fear of life, or death.

I am trying to avoid details that we have been over a hundred times before.

You and many others may never understand when and why, we lead people like you to greater self freedom, out of absolute need to eventually expand the human nation in ways that will only protect it. This is very self serving because it is MOST important to wake all sleeping brilliant minds.

The individual will be the the one that contributes to the overall success of mankind through artistic ,scientific, and intellectual endeavors.

You are on the other side that believes the government is far more important. This is what the few that wish to control want us to believe.

How dare you offer me complacency in exchange for,WHAT?

Ask Capt Scott. We should already be 50 years ahead of were we are now. We should already have a starship enterprise. Instead we are stifling the brilliance of the individual. We are trading it off for what? Not enough business to at least offer you a sustainable job.

All that really matters,,, ALWAYS MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE, and don't be afraid to love. Now we are talking God. Now we are talking America. Good Luck.

$500 Billion spent on FEMA. When needed, the victims of Katrina couldn't get help. The govt. said it was spent in development. Where were the sirens. Many did not hear any, none to be heard. A liberal would say-Yes!, we need spending like that. How dare you say I'm a liberal! Did you forget your head in the clouds before landing? Dream tax! I think it's because you're comfortable tagging someone to annoy them when you disagree with them. I have repeatedly said I'm not in favor of the wars on two fronts. You need a new definition my friend. A liberal is one that says to tax the hell out of the masses on the same item those that are selling it skip the major portion and pass it on to the consumer. How many jobs would it produce if the tax on fuel were only as fair as any other commodity? Or service? I do not feel we should have mandatory health care, I don't feel I should pay for your lipo-suction to remove the fat from your head. I'd just as soon ask you to slow down on the Big Macs. Go forth and prosper, just don't vote for levies to put the burden of big govt.,FEMA, and your liposuction on my gallon.
