Sure they can.... ever watch the sun set into the straits of Mackinaw with the bridge in the foreground? Beautiful, just beautiful...

The bridge is beautiful prop in the glistening water , forward of the setting sun , to be sure... And from the southwest Horizon, overlooking Mexico and New Mexico, from the Plateau I sit upon... your sunset would be likened to a tiny diamond, perhaps... against the back drop of a massive, orange, rouge and purple universe of stars. I would add... the chirping cricket by my feet, separated from the distant yelp of a Coyote or the 'cry of conquest' from a Hawk...these all make up the sunset I'm talking about.

You do know how to paint a picture for the mind... the very definition of poetry. My sunset does seem pale in comparison. BUT I did get one thing you cannot.... The "green flash" that occurs only over water. Other than that, you win!

The best sunsets ever were at the Melton Hill dam in Tennessee looking wetward. Idyllic setting...

This side of the equinox, July 15th will be a full moon. That afternoon we will do as every year- set the picnic table up with snacks and condiments. Go to the top of our mountain (Walton's mountain wasn't one either) in the evening as the sun sets. On the charcoal grill we'll throw on steaks from the local deli that is the best that can be found. Any room left will be filled with shrimp/scallop skewers. On the gas grill will be corn still in the husks, and potatoes seasoned with garlic butter wrapped in foil. All beef hot dogs and brats with saute'ed onions, green peppers and mushrooms. Depending on how many is here we may grill some wings. Strategically placed stereos out in the side yard surround the low lit picnic table under the apple trees as the full moon rises. Set up for a long night of poker, playing guitar, riding go-carts, dirt bikes and quads in our very large grassy field manicured to perfection. We drink what ever makes us happy, tell jokes and scary stories around the fire pit. In the words of Pink Floyd- "Wish you were here". 8)
