That said, the next time I get addicted to something I hope its less of hassle quitting - maybe heroin or something easy like that. I wish I'd never seen a cigarette but yep, I'd love to have one.

All I can say is that its a very slow death. You may find the following very useful: (These are my Observations based on numerous conversations I have had with others that decided to quit): Banning, General Surgeon warnings, legislative acts, suggesting, demanding, lecturing about the ills of smoking is a guarantee that smokers will NOT quit if you subject them to the aforementioned. So, what will get people to quit? I have a strong theory:
The TRIPLE PLAY IN A BLANKET (My definition):
The Triple play borrows three components of human state and personality:
1) Ego/Vanity
2) Psychic Benefit (Economical prowess and comfort)
3) Health-(sense of wellness)
If any or all of these three are sufficiently violated or attacked by the physical consequences of smoking, there is a good chance the smoker will quit: Heres the break down
Ego /Vanity: Aesthetics, Smoking effected a relationship resulting in the loss of a mate, who left because of the complications of smoking, Appearances due to metabolic changes in body i.e aggravated diseases, weight gain or loss, skin aggravation, odors, bad breath, yellow teeth, smelly clothes, yellowing walls. Also includes behavior which portray us in a bad light, like searching the garbage for a cigarette butt (juxtaposed with desperation) , etc anything that attacks our sense of beauty, grace and desirability in the eyes of others. Some folks see this as a paramount dilemma and opt to sustain ego/vanity over the cigarette addiction.
Psychic Benefit:: Lets do some math: A carton = @60 bucks now, depending on your state taxes and laws.
If a "pack-a-day" smoker buys his own smokes, then 30 days/10 = 3; 3 X 60 = $180.00 per month to support the habit.
Double that for "2-pack-a-day" smokers.
Sticking with the minimum, 180 bucks can pay a utility, treat a date, feed the pets, repair the car, replace some clothes, etc... The loss of this expendable income, in the context of becoming financial obliged to the habit, tends to destroy some minor degree of security. When combined with the physical taxation of energy caused by smoking, we stand to get 'depressed' about our financial position. (even if slight) But , with some people, that is compelling enough to get them to quit smoking.
Health (Sense or Wellness) Its not secret here...Cigarettes are treated with copious amounts of chemicals, which over time..well something has to give ...in the body. Loss of energy is a biggie. There actually comes a point where a person gets so sick from the smoking...or so tired of feeling less than able, that they get fed up with feeling like sh*t all the time..and that compels them to quit smoking.
Sometimes its a combination of all three.
If you look closely they all could tie back to ego and vanity. But its not the TRIPLE PLAY ALONE that does it... rather, It's that in conjunction with THE BLANKET (aka the threat of death or disability ) which makes it the deal breaker . In my case, it was the
third component of the triple play in the blanket that really did it for me.
Please feel free to use this as a baseline for your research. (Just make sure you mention me somewhere in your book LOL!)[/b]
