I thought Amy Winehouse was skanky, then i listened to her sing a few and was blown away. The skank has worn off imo.
As the saying goes sex sells. What some call skanky others (young'uns) may find sexy.
It's all trendy BS anyway.... it'll fade then onto what's next.

Odd dress has been the calling card of rock for generations due to the concept that rock is supposed to be "revolutionary" as well as has "prostitution" ( sexuality as a selling point. )
How you choose to dress and present yourself is of course a personal choice.
I prefer to think we ( NKF ) are revolutionary because we not only anti establishment in our musical style but we are anti revolutionary in our message.

GF I happened to see Alanis Morisette in a club setting right when You Outta Know was hitting the airwaves, she didnt wear skanky stuff at that time and she did blow that crowd away.

There are exceptions to all the rules, if you are getting into the public eye musically then in my mind we are all Rock N Ro Hos anyway.

Anyway good luck with whatever look makes you feel comfortable, by the way leather pants do get awful sweaty LOL

The rest of the band looks normal. I kept wondering what the hell was going on and hoping my bandmates didn't expect me to dress like that. Then yesterday I came across an article on MSN about "Women Rockers Who Keep Things Beautiful" with a photo of Kesha. Now it all makes sense; trashy hobo is the new shabby chick. And apparently I need to start tuning in to VH1 again.

I realize this isn't the first time in history that front women have donned crazy, skanky, costumes...Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Cher... But it never fails to make me ask "Why, God? Why?" It just feels like a sell out.

I'm getting all verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves.

THANK GOD SOMEONE ELSE THINKS THIS TOO! :D I thought I was crazy! It's only getting worse. We oughta start a new style, maybe one with EXTRA clothes! lol

While groping for the Metal show last week I passed at least three vid sites where chick singers looked like post apocolyptic hookers. Don't find it very attractive - sort of a domination look despite all the skin. Tarja of Nightwish could show them a thing or two about what female performers can be.

But my opinion ain't worth much. I was quite taken with a photo of Lady GaGa yesterday with green hair. I may need to get back on my meds... :(

I also agree, I mean I liked the punk slut look when I was a teenager, but that was the 70s and it was fun back then to give the establishment the finger over what it was telling me was acceptable.

However, I went through that phase, and there was a reason we were doing it, now, there's no real reason for it. I mean, if you've seen Wendy O'Williams from the Plasmatics perform, I can't help but think a "been there/done that." At least when I was doing it the men responded, now, they seem just like desensitized to it. In fact, a lot of guys seem densitized to women period which is why they have to go to clubs and re-enact lesbian love scenes on the dance floor with each other.

This is not to say I'm against sexuality, because I enjoy being sexy, sensual and I like to dress in Victorian lingerie on stage, and have adopted a more steampunk look. I've never liked showing too much skin, so I love the bodice look and long skirts pulled up with just a bit of skin showing. I mean, sex sells to a point, but not necessarily by showing everything.

Just be yourself and find your own style that you like that best defines you.

The overall perspective is simply that the female gender is still considered sex dolls. Even abreast the changes that have gone on, the world largely does see this still as true. Even if most men try and openly advocate equal rights, these same men are equally turned on by the "trashy, do everything, shake your stuff" girl. And if anything was to denote this behavior as indifference it is quickly looked away from. With such sayings as "Sex Sells", and any myriad of wordings one cares to undertake in delivery. However, please do not hold this rant for all men, just most. All I can say to this is try and be the best you can be as a performer. And care little for society and what it expects. I have read a few things on this site from various members. And some of it essentially wanders off to doing mindless monkey following to what others do. As a person, not just a artist, always do your own thing. Regardless if it sells well. That is what I consider to be a true artist. One that holds close their dream.

And even as a man I can say .. most men are moronic brainless pigs that let their lower half dictate how they should be. What those girls do doesn't equal art or the embracing of anything. Over trying to use their bodies to deliver a sell. Rather than their creativity.
