Couldn't have said it better PaperDog. Music is a lot easier to do if the bills are paid. In this economy a college education is pretty much a requirement to have a decent life. You can always do music on the side. I just hope she doesn't listen to an idiot like Glenny.

Personally..I went to college for music for 2 years and paid for it myself....didn't do me squat as I'm broke as hell and make a lousy living. forget about eking out a living in music... I'd be homeless if that were the case! Unless your kid has awesome connections and is filthy rich to begin with, I'd direct her to a more stable career. Sorry....just being brutally honest as I wish I could go back and spend all that wasted time on something more prosperous and rewarding later on in life!

I am a drummer myself and I think you are on the right path. First, your daughter should really learn to read music. I think very important for her future. She would be able to go anywhere and play. Studio, stage, orchestra anywhere in the world.

But then she has to be able to make make the choice to form a band and experience the real world. Starting from the basement and working her way up. Picking band members, choosing songs, and creating music that the world would want to hear and follow. That is what most of us do, PAY YOUR DUES!!!! So there we go and good luck to your daughter and look forward to hearing what she will bring to us. Keep us posted.

Crip, just give lessons at some guitar shop.
Theres money in that if you want to teach all of the time.
