The best way to set up the swingstar for studio recording is "not" to use pillows, tape or pressure pads. Take the heads off all the drums "except the snare" and run a 2" felt strip on the inside of each head, off centered. When you tighten the heads back down the felt strip will tighten down just enough to give you the big studio sound with total natural feel on the drums. The felt is soft enough as to not warp any of the bindings. For the snare use the Evans Snare Drum Duo Ring Dampener Pack 14 Inches.
Note: on the first small tom I use a 1/2" felt strip. The reason is I like to have the higher pitch to have a little more life to it.
