Hey Crip I gotta agree here. Electric guitars just sound better with 10s. I tune down to Eb so I can do whole step string bends for 4 hours without bleeding all over the stage. Better tone, better sustain, manageable string tension and no bloody fingers.
Glenj, Is that a Skylane? Nice!

So I got you pissed off enough to prove me WRONG. Good for you, glad you were able to unload those. I don't like GC. Hey did you find me a drummer yet? Leave me a message, I'm screening my calls, I am trying to avoid talking to some of my "FRIENDS" Yada Yada Yada. That was very funny.
Of course half the people here wont know what I'm talking about.
When's the next gig? Sat? Farmingdale?

Tune as Shredd6 said but the final test on whether your neck is out you should get clean harmonics once in tune on the 12th. Very playable, but try harmonics on the seventh fret- good? now try the 5th. If it sounds good (in harmonics) on all three of these frets- And in all strings, you need no adjustment. Don't fret it too much if you can't get a good harmonization on anything but the 12th, but if you can bring in all strings sounding sweetly without too much trouble, you're guitar should be in tune up the neck now. If not, You may have to adjust your bridge by measuring from the bottom of the strings to the top of seventh fret. It should be in the neighborhood of 0.013 inches. At this point you may want to investigate fret wear if you still get the buzzing that seems to be isolated to particular chords.

Ha..you never piss me off,Glen....I was just super surprised that they exchanged a ton of unopened 9's for 10's without even flinching... I've had these strings for almost 2 years!
Drummers are-a-plenty in our neck-o-da woods, Glen....just open up LI Craigs list and you've got the pick of the litter
Yeah....We're playing JD's Place in Farmingdale this Sat. Night and then gonna cool it for a while and start working on recording. I'm not feeling to thrilled about this one as our main fan base in in eastern Suffolk and most of these guys all live in the area of the couple of clubs we play... JD's is right on the tip of Suffolk and Nassau and am already hearing "I'll pass on this one and wait for you guys to come closer" This is why we do pretty well $$wise when we play close to home. Not like the ole days when the bars had their own clientele no matter what band played there!

I guess you didn't read my earlier post, Crunchy.... The intonation is perfect as this axe came with 10's to begin with and I have a feeling that all the tech did was change the strings for me and charge me for a complete set up! The "buzz" was because the strings were waaay to close to the neck and they were 9's! I added tension by raising it just a tad and putting 10's on....Now this baby SCREAMS!

Yeah, I got that the first time, but if anyone else is going to come away with useful information you will get that I was speaking generically in an attempt to teach toddlers how to tie their shoes. This topic may have been useful to those that may not have known that a change of gauge could change the setup, what strings are good with Gibby's and Strat's for instance.
What time you gonna start at JD's? Let me see if my wife can get 2 or 3 hundred of her friends out.
You realize we are just old fogies that just want to stay in bed and screw, sleep, and collect our SS checks.

One thing I didn't think about, and I think it's been mentioned. Raise the bass end of the pickups. I custom adjust mine to get what I want out of the guitar, and get the most out 0of the pickups. Most guitar techs don't even think about the pickups, I've seen them so far out you had to adjust the volume according to what pickup you used. (guitar techs are the reason I do all my own maintenance and repairs) My pickups are all set for loads of bass, and just high enough they don't distort. I usually back off the high end, most pickups get too much treble when I set the bass end for good solid bottom end if I keep them level. Often on the neck pickup I have to lower the bass side, but not always. The main thing is to set the overall pickup height so both or all 3 pickups produce the same volume level, then fine tune for tone response.

The presure you put on the fretboard- a little or alot, will effect the intonation more than changing string gauge
