What provocation was that?

IT looks to me that it threatens direct American involvement...something that has been promised will not occur.

Mike9699 wrote:Jimmy, did you know that Obama was against the limited scope action authority that you just posted. He thought even that was to much authority for the president to have and set up a commission to change it. His commission wanted to replace that little ditty. In its place, the commission proposes a law requiring a president to consult lawmakers before any “significant military action” and calling on Congress to vote up or down within 30 days.

Once again Obama says one thing when it comes to getting elected but does just the opposite once he's in.

Kind of like Bush.

Philby, you know I should never have even joined in this type of non winnable debate in the first place. My first post was to respond to someone spamming this "music site" with Liberal cut and paste articles not to attack liberals or debate political views. I'm not Republican or Democrat, Left wing or right wing, liberal or conservative. I'm me, an independent thinker not a joiner. I'm liberal in some of my views and conservative on others.

I can see that, Mike. It just gets me how easily we use the word "liberal" in such a demeaning manner. (Thank you Reagan!)

The fact is, there are many services that are needed in any just system. There are also many that we provide that are wasteful.

I kind of like the gov't delivering some opportunities for its ppl to indulge in a bit of culture, & alternative views, & I don't see it nearly as wasteful as using private institutions, designed only for profit, to deliver that which our gov't should be handling...things like prisons, the armed services, SSI, & possibly health care.

And when I see corp's controlling the private lives of the workers even to the point of whether they drink off the job, or smoke off the job, or whatever, I see a very dangerous trend that smacks of enslavement.

Whe I see those uber-rich corp's & individuals investing their American dollars overseas, at the expense of Americans, it scares the bejeezus outta me, especially when they do it right after our tax dollars have been the on;y thing keeping them solvent.

I am quite sure that the majority of waste in our gov't is due to corruption, privatization, & such, & that measley little piddly stuff like NPR & the NEA & gov't funded abortions are less than a drop in the bucket. i'd like to see us tackling the bigger problems first, then cleaning up with the piddly sh*t, but as long as the media & the gov't can keep us at each others' throats over the piddlies, we aren't likely to handle the REAL problems, & that is my biggest concern, since "they" gain more power by the minute, & soon we won't be able to stop them without violence.

Philby, I have no answers or solutions. Both corporations and our government want to control our lives but we need them both to survive. We all want to live like the Eloi but without the Morlock. Remove the Morlock and the Eloi way of life is gone. If the Eloi had to take care of themselves it would only be a matter of time before a another type of Morlock would demand payment.

Nothing in this world is free. Somebody has to pay for it.

For those that are saying what the hell is he talking about, watch the orignal movie The Time Machine.

Good reference. Rmember that the Morlock were EATING the Eloi. Not a world I'm gonna live in. I ain't Soylent Green, neither.

Every successful civilization has eventually crumbled. This one will, too.

They crumble because of corruption - #1 reason.

When they are in their successful phases, however, what makes them successful is a carefully guarded balance between the haves & the have nots, between the "liberal" & the "conservative," between those who would rush headlong into things, & those who would wait generations before making a decision.

When either side gains total control, it's over.

The best we can hope for, in this or in any country, is that balance. We've lost it, here. Historically, I dunno if it's possible to regain it or not. I'm no historian, but, in the big picture, we;ve had a damned short run of it, & all we can seem to do is to argue over who's fault it is, & who's actually in control, instead of addressing those huge problems that have created such imbalances.

These are indeed scary times for us all. Something BIG is coming, & we can all feel it. We don't need the Maya calender or Nostradamus or Edgar Cayce or the Bible or who- or whatever to tell us. We're too many. We're too greedy. There's a huge imbalance in the world-wide system, & it's gonna hit us all hard.

I wish us all the luck in the world, & I fear we may have used it all up...

Philby, our government and the corporations are the Morloks in reality. We need them and they need us. We feed them and they feed us and like in the movie We the Eloi are the ones that pays the bigger price.

By the way, do you remember the name of the main character's best friend? I do believe it was ......Philby!

The funny thing that tickled me was when people said "yeah but he lied under oath."

No he didn't, it's just a question of if you consider blow jobs sex. I consider them foreplay.

See how much we politically agree. You sexy thing you.

While I appreciate the reference, I don't believe in the metaphor. I don't want to be an Eloi OR a Morlock. The sort of society demonstrated in Star Trek or Logan's Run (minus the age limiting execution thing) would be pretty good. People work at what they enjoy doing. The rest is automated. Money is obsolete. That would be something worth working toward, not communism OR capitalism.

Chaeya, just when I think we are reaching middle ground I find out you and Mike Nobody have even more in common. You both like to give blow jobs and call it foreplay.

Mike69 that is not what Chaeya was saying. You are putting up some valid arguments , but you were right when you wrote about getting involved in a political argument. You ain't ready,,, just yet.

As for me, a few warm days and I'm just trying to do the same thing Chaeya does all the time. Have some fun.

Glen, I don't believe what I said had anything to do with politics. It was a joke taken from Chaeya's post and directed at Mike. I can see that you ain't exactly ready for me,,, just yet.
