Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of albums I liked but there was a lot of crap too. My record collection was huge. While most kids were buying toys, I was buying albums. I can't tell you how many times I joined Columbus Music Club and got a crap load of albums, buy one or three then quit. Then join again under a new name.

Chaeya wrote:Oh shut up! Bon Jovi's lucky they got two more hits that kept them from being a one hit wonder. If anything, iTunes saved me from buying crappy albums with only one good song on it. If it did anything it made these musicians get off their ass and write some decent tunes.

You guys remember, when you go to the music store and spend that $5 you saved up all week to get your favorite band's album and there's like two songs you can stand to listen to and the rest was shitty jam sessions (Rolling Stones, anyone?)

I'm fine Glen, just being my usual smart-assedness. Ha ha. I always get mistaken for being POed.

I got big things in the works, as long as I can keep the earthquakes away for a bit.

I think Jon is right to a point. What happened to going into a music store with excitement to buy a record and coming home to listen to it. Yes you put it on and oh sh*t some of these songs suck, but it was what it was. Those days are gone but need to come back. Music now I think is in the toilet and everyone sounds the same. RAP SUCKS. We need a resurgence in music and bands from the good old days need to come back.

Or we need people to step up and make it happen. I am a drummer willing to do almost anything to make a record. To get on stage and pound my ass off, lose maybe 5 pounds from sweating from hot lights and rocking. My thing is, everyone who made it is safe. I know bands that need a chance and now those who are safe, WON'T take some of these bands and give them a chance.

The record companies today want just about every dime you make plus the rights to what you write and play. So what does one do. Anyway I want to hear back from you all and pass it on, and maybe something good can come out of one reply.

I was so sick of buying albums that had repeat songs from other albums on them, or albums only having one or two songs on them, that I finally gave up on throwing my money away.
I always preferred fusion so I did buy a lot of movie sound tracks.

I remember going to a music store where they let you hear the album before buying it. I spent a full 8 hours or more listening to crap. Since I was unwilling to leave without something, I bought a Frip and Eno album. "Wind on Water" When I went home an played it I found it to be something more like water torture. Absolutely the most boring repetitive crap I have ever heard in my life.
I can't remember purchasing anything after that for a long time.

Good point SlackerG:

I distantly remember the freedom we enjoyed as music lovers when we obtained the ability to record on cassette. No more lame ass songs over and over again trying to get to the one or two on an album that were worth listening too.
We would buy beg borrow and steal albums to build our own " play list" and we would then share there home made wonders amongst a fairly large group of friends to play in our ride.

Hell I can even recall trading CD's with total strangers over a cold beer and a reefer.

And " Greatest Hits " albums / tapes did nothing but mix up and destroy the continuity of the few great albums that were available.

I remember buying an old 45 at the record store for 99 cents and now I can buy a song for 99 cent at a few websites. But I get my kicks coming here and checking out some kick as muso's do it the way they want.

A lot leave me inspired.

Time /Warner did more to kill off the music industry them most have done. I remember wanting to get an album a few years ago, and Time/Warner had chopped it to pieces. The old Dobie Gray (SP?) album "Drift Away" It had some fine guitar work on it by Reggie Young. I believe I liked every song on that album. :(

The music industry has constantly done a fine job of shooting itself in the foot and then trying to blame someone else.
