I would say 68 - 77 and then you're right, Disco put a lot of musicians out of work.

Rock tried to compete in the 80s and there were a few songs, but most of them were cheesy, the videos got worse with band members smiling at each other, dumb antics, like they were performing for Disney.

Every era had, and will always have cruddy music and goofy trends. The most influencial era for me was the 80's. Mainly 84-88. For all the bad music, there was just as much, or even more good music...it just wasn't mainstream. Of course, there was still some good mainstream music too. Pop music was better then, than now in my opinion.

The 1900's brought us a lot of heroes and innovators. Who will we have in the 2000's? I haven't seen any yet, but I'm waiting. You never know when that "something" or "someone" will emerge.
