Hi I'm posting this link because I am a musician in the northern, VA area and I want to get some exposure and start getting a fan base. I have a couple of sites up YouTube.com/folkavery and one on soundcloud.com

If anybody out their has suggestions or things they've tried that's work I'd be very grateful to hear them.

Also does anybody know how to set up those phrases that appear below the line when you place a post?

Try making a video of you doing your thing in your underwear wearing a lamp shade on your head. And hope it goes viral. Stupid and completely moronic stuff seems to be the vids that get a lot of attention. That would be about the most attention getting vid other than a naked band. :)

Look at Charlie. Melting down and yelling "winning" at the camera. How much national coverage and how many you tube views did that get?

Clue #1 Most musicians are broke. It kinda comes with the territory.

Clue #2 The number of musicians being discovered on the internet is approaching zero. If you want to develop a fan base, get out and play in front of real people. In the park, in local coffee houses, on the patio of the local crab shack, the subway station. Once people start to crowd around, you will know you have something. Soon local clubs will notice you and hire you to play on Saturday night. Now you are a little less broke. Once you are able to pack these places to capacity with screaming fans, you have a fan base.

Here is how a couple of guys did it:

Now go out and play for somebody. Leave them wanting more. Good luck!
