And Slacker, no I didn't miss the original intent of your message. Japan wouldn't do that because . . . that's just f**k up. Ain't gonna happen.

When disasters happen, if I can spare it I donate to a reputable charity.

I just helped out a musician friend who's house burned down. I could have been an ass and told him to eat sh*t because he was living in a house with faulty electrical systems, should've had a fire extinguisher, etc. etc., but it's horrible, I dip in my pocket and helped.

I regularly give money and buy food and coffee for the homeless. It's not my business how they got there, I don't care. It's in my heart to help them and I do. I don't feel taken nor do I feel like a fool.

That's what I do, sh*t happens to people and I help them out of it the best way I can. That's the joy of being human.

Reputable
Yes ... charitable giving that is tangible and traceable so that we do not throw our pearls to swine. ( Except on April 15th )
Man asks for money for food. I buy him food. Last I checked ya can't trade a burger for crack or wine.

It is so much easier on a personal bases.

This may be just the tip of the iceberg.

If both those reactors melt down the islands of Japan may be totally uninhabitable for decades.

If both those reactors melt down, look out for the radioactive cloud heading this way.

It wouldn't be pretty diluted by the time it gets here. They tried to scare the hell out of everybody with that when Chenoybyl happened in Russia. With all the regular toxic stuff we have to deal with, it hardly raises my eyebrow.

I've seen the footage of the dead zone left at Chernobyl.
I've also seen the W.H.O. Incidence of Cancer per capita for the region.

Not pretty.

Chaeya you need to realize storms are bad yes and flooding from storms
is bad yes and tornadoes are bad yes but those things are es capable.
Some die but the tsunami is basically inescapable. There will be many
thousands that die in Japan. Bodies that have been washed out to sea
will be showing up on the coast line in days to come. The only escape is to
plan on it and not be there when it happens. That is why I said that area
should have only been a work area and not a living area given the
geography and history. I was wrong about S. Calif. it is sliding side ways
and not down. Still the fault lines there are so active that they warrant
not Living anywhere near them. The tsunami in Indonesia of 04 killed
230,000 people very quickly. That was a different situation there in that
there was not a large history of tsunami and earthquake activity like
that in Japan. It just seams to me that the inevitable was obvious and not
prepared for. The Hawaii situation is real and also inevitable.

Another thing to think about is that all that surrounding area that
was covered with water is now poluted earth. It will no longer be an agricultural area. Not to mention the radioactive implications that may be
happening.[/b]

Most earthquakes aren't that bad. You have that small percentage which are very bad which will produce a tsunami. Just like you have that one tornado that shows up at 3 a.m. when everyone's in bed and that warning came too late and a lot of damage was done. In fact, tornadoes do more damage than Earthquakes. People may get away, but their homes are leveled and they have to rebuild which causes for emergency aid.

Because of the planetary events happening at the moment, high seismic activity is to be expected and I take full responsibility for where I live. For instance, I'm terrified of tornadoes. I grew up in the midwest and I was terrified then and still am. However, earthquakes don't bother me as much. Most of the buildings here have been retrofitted. I've been in 2 large earthquakes, one which was the Northridge quake. I sat up in bed rocking and rolling until it was over.

I wouldn't live near a volcano. I agree, that's crazy, but at least you can get a warning to get the heck out of there. The problem is when you have a third world country with very poor people. With poor living structures and resources, you're bound to have a very large loss of life. Then with volcanos you have pyroclastic flows which pretty much end you. No thanks.

One thing to remember when the govt hogs start talking about moving fleets of ships and so on. Every dime we spend we have to borrow from the Chinese. We as a nation are broke at a level everyone seems to want to not talk about.

Wouldn't it make sense to elimate the middle man? Just let the Chinese send the money directly to Japan?

That said I'm all in favor of individuals helping through reputable charities or in my case, through the church. (our overhead is well under 10%)

But we absolutely have to stop this out of control govt from spending money they / we simply do not have.

Nav4c,

I suspect I wrong.? I thought I said debt not trade deposits. Here is what a friend had to say about it when I asked him the same thing. Rather the same thing that came to mind in my hollow little head. I admit, I know nothing about politics other than how deceitful, self serving, and crooked politicians all are. Here is Sams answer:

" We'll print it and give it to them. Ah, to own the presses."

It's so hard looking at those pictures. I'm glad your friends made it RG, but I can only imagine what they're going through by way of comfort taken away, probably lost people they know, getting supplies and all.

With this planetary alignment thing going on this week, we went and bought emergency supplies for the house, flashlights, can goods, water, propane, first aid kit. I already have a fire extinguisher and I've had first response disaster training at my job, so I know how to do search and rescue, CPR, cribbing and I've worked as a nurse's aid. I've worked out a plan with the kids if they're at school and an earthquake hits. I have a tent, AB&C fire extinguisher in the house, shovels, tools. That's the best I can do.
