Doc, Maynard, and Santana?? Ok RG, spill it.

When Doc and Maynard were touring the Midwest it was being at the right place at the right time and sick drummers. Back then people used to call me "Buddy Rich Jr" because I could do a left hand roll with a flam. Same with Santana when he was touring Japan in the 80's his drummer missed the flight for the first three shows. There is a little more to the story about the contacts but its all in the past for me. Someday I'll spill the beans on Hall and Oats, War and Crow.

But really, I had to think long and hard about name droppin' I just hate it, and sometimes I really hate my past.

Cool stuff RG! I sat in with a few heavys over the years but it was very brief and I never toured with them.

Almost all these bands were blues bands. Jerry Dowell performs a variety of genres. My current band is rock, some blues. I've sat in with various classic rock bands and gigged a number of times.

Hey RG, Backalley wasn't the same Back Alley that was based here in Kansas City in the mid 90's was it? I auditioned with them but I turned down the band invite....

JW...Rampage and Strange Brew were 2 very, very big "working club" bands here on Long Island.... These guys were making thousands apiece every week!

I think you or Jimmy listed Misdemeaner, not sure on the spelling but they were a big club act in my area during the late 70s and early 80s, in fact I opened for them and ran sound for them over a 2 to 3 year period. I dont recall them making very much money. The bassist works at guitar center these days. Sweet Memories Man!

RG - man, you must have had some interesting experiences with such huge acts. I can't imagine "hating" a past like that.

What's to regret? Missed opportunities? Wasted time? Bad experiences on the road? Dude, these are what have made you what you are! You have lived a life that many, if not most, musicians dream of, working with top acts like those.

Astra actually is... the rest, not so much. Astra is a smooth jazz project my good friend and previous boss has.

he is a good piano and jazz guitarist that I love jamming with from time to time.

That sounds sweet, I've been listening to more and more jazz these days, it relaxes me as much as classical music does.

Other bands that never played out but I was part of were:

1) Buster Cherry - heavy metal, the vocalist could do a mean Dio!

2) The Verge - All original, cool songs but the leader was Hitler.

That's exactly why I didn't work out with my other band "Mugsy"! They were all awesome musicians but both the drummer and vocalists were "Hitlers".. It got so I hated rehearsals and gigs and was scared shitless of making even the most minor mistakes on stage! DAAAYYYAAAM We were a clubbing cover band and these guys thought they were da bomb! I have to admit though, One of the most talented bands I've ever had the displeasure of playing with! If they lightened up and just had some fun with it, we could've been a very busy band!

Jimmy there was new wave band in Memphis in the early 80s called The Verge, small world man! They were actually pretty good, they used to play at the Mad House and I was kind of a regular spectator there in those days.
