FRANNY! I didn't say it was anyone in particular for very real and specific reasons.

Fact is I didn't agree with M from the get go, but it was on the basis that her crutch was to state it was religion oriented. That's the issue I had with her, first and foremost.

You don't see Bono saying that all his music is religion oriented and yet he does state that in a not so obvious manner.

Don't pin it on me and I still am not ID'ing the object of my dislike, as my opinion matters for very little.

Franny, that was good to say that stuff.
But - there's more to this story than that . . .
.
Like many, many other people here, she sent me an email.
.
She didn't get discouraged or quit music, or anything like that.
Like several other people here: she just went elsewhere.
Too much hatred . . .
.
There's been a multitude of angry things appearing on this site for the last month or more. Not one, specific individual: I am NOT pointing fingers.
But there had been angry, non-professional, and just plain rude attacks on someone every day.
.
Imagine going to, oh, I don't know . . . Sony, or GE or Panasonic or JVC or someone, looking for advice on something, and then getting treated like a stupid jerk.
If you were treated like that, you'd NEVER buy anything from Sony, or GE or Panasonic or JVC . . . . ever again . . .
.
And, on an internet site: just press 'delete.'
Instant relief . . .
.
Hey, why sign in to Bandmix, in a good mood, only to be attacked and put in a real crummy mood? Who needs more stress?
.
Also, many of the people who are not actually attacked, - just choose not to asociate with the kind of folks they see here.
.
. . . just press 'delete:' instant relief . . .
..
I'm on several other music sites, where people are friendly and professional.
A lot of the people who left this site are still my friends.
And, I've exchanged several emails or messages with people who now hate Bandmix.
This place has received terrible reputation.
.
Also, I'm friends with several musicians who visited this site just once. They looked around, were appalled by what they saw, and left in a hurry.
.
. . . AND . . .
People who leave here aren't afraid to talk about the constant negativity, destructive criticism, and bickering they see here.
And, believe me people ARE talking about this site.
And, sadly, I've seen some really good, talented people visit, and - like putting their hand on a hot stove - they jerk away from this site in surprise.
Or disgust; you should hear what people are saying about this place . . .
.
If I'm lucky, I eventually trip across them on another internet site . . .
.
And, me, personally?
Well, if I can't think of something good to say about someone, I just keep my mouth shut.
And, there's more . . . I'm working with several local musicians, here in CT, and elsewhere.
I used to refer people to my page here, but I had to stop; because I think it'd hurt my reputation, more than it'd help me, to refer people here.
.
Sorry, Bandmix . . .
. . . it really needed to be said . . .
Now, here's hoping I don't get attacked, too.
I'm in an ok mood, and I'd like to stay that way . . .

What? you trying to say it wasn't her?

I don't know why you keep bringing up Bono?
He never pursued the Christian genre...he went to the pop, R&R charts period. If he had never proclaimed himself Christian, no one would ever had known it.
Me myself? i'm glad someone announces that they're doing Christian music; that way i know not to listen if i don't feel like hearing songs about Christ, Crosses, Zion, or any other religious stuff.
Even though i play P&W music doesn't mean i listen to it constantly...hell, it'd drive me frickin' nuts if i did.

Christian genre? No such thing, except on Sunday. It's a rather bad excuse to say "it's different".

Bono, never said squanto, wrote his music and people love it. Yeah, he's Christian, but doesn't lean on it. He lets his music do all the talking and yeah he does beat the religion aspect, but the difference is it is during his music, not before or after.

I would have known he is a Christian. If you get the lyrics, maybe you figure it out, maybe you do not.

And that's the whole point, being true to what you believe in, without having to carry it around and show people, like you personally are dragging "the cross" behind you.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
You lost me on the first sentence.
Yet i do have to ask, "is there such a thing as Gospel music, Negro Spiritual, or Hymns"?
Like i said, you lost me. :?:

At the extreme risk of throwing gasoline on the fire (yeah yeah, I NEVER do that...) I have to say that I have seen an awful lot of musicians right now jumping to the "Christian music" thing because it's trendy, with very mediocre/subpar/bad material that is more copy-cat than it is inspired. I think Franny had a good point with how much of a turn off (or signal to avoid?) it is to attach a bullhorn to each of your songs announcing your religion. Your spiritual beliefs and practices should come through in your material anyway, no matter what they are - n'cest pas?

Comments in addition to Bluesrock's post:

I think the reputation of this site .... if there is one ... is that you must tread lightly here as it is very easy to become the victom of those who like to shoot ignorant bashing remarks at people. Some people are sensitive like Melanie .... and they quit the site. Some people aren't that easily intimidated ... like me .... and shoot the crap right back. Either or ... whether people quit in defense of the on-going non needed remarks or simply stand up and say pfffttttt screw you too... the core of the problem can be viewed as the pre-existing sarcasm from people who could have easily minded their own business in the first place.

I am appalled at the behavior that resulted in Melanie leaving the site. First .... dedicating an entire thread to the bashing of her music .... and posting there such disgusting statements in negativity of her efforts and her right to share.... was pretty much the tune this site likes to play on a regular basis.

Here we are on a site full of self-proclaimed professionals .... and a woman gets intimidated off the site rather than assisted in some way. It was so easy to judge her and treat her like crap when you used music as your crutch to do so ... but you didn't have the decency to give her a chance and treat her with respect as a person.... as she is a human being first.... musician second.

I agree that musicians need to be able to accept criticism .... but what Melanie received was not criticism ..... it was downright pathetic ignorance. And as a result .... she quit the site. Very good there people ... who is next on your list?

You know I was going to chaste Irminsul for going back and forth with you, M+M, but heck with it. I can see from your post you have it all figured out or at least you think you do.

Does the term, "any port in a storm" mean anything to you>?

Irminsul,
I agree with your statement about religion. ( . . . attach a bullhorn to each of your songs announcing your religion . . .")
.
You're right: this site is, after all, first and foremost, a music site. . .
.
also,
.
muzickmage,
I agree with your statement, " . . . decency to give her a chance and treat her with respect as a person.... as she is a human being first.... musician second."
.
I guess that (to me anyway), - those two statements said it all.

One thing i do know is; it's a shame, as everyone has a right to be here.
If i don't care for someones music or their spouting religion or whatever in every post, personally i ignore them as they're not hurting or bothering me, not to mention i may just learn something. Those that aren't very talented do need to be told the truth...not stomped on and belittled.

Unfortunately in this business, some people live up to the stereotypes of certain forms of players.

But then again... "what do i know? i'm just a bassplayer"
