I have looked at thousands of profiles since joining, all over the country. The vast majority of profiles have no sound or video files. I'm just wondering why? Many don't have any pictures or much of anything. Owing to the fact some will use this service out of curiosity or whatever reason, those who seem serious about finding other musicians/bands to work with ... how can anyone tell the level of musicianship and their sound/style if they don't put something up which displays it?

It's fine to list musicians and bands who influence people who put up profiles, but that isn't necessarily a very good indication of what any person actually plays like.

I just find it odd so little exists to show what people are capable of doing. It's frustrating.

Let's put it this way, you wouldn't want anyone like that in your band anyway would you? So a blank profile saves you time! Same as holding auditions; if someone doesn't show up, is very late or calls off at the last minute it's as good as an audition - one that they failed.

Actually, I've made a few contacts with people who have not put up any audio or video. I contacted them because of something they wrote in their profiles or whatever. So, even though I do use the options in searching, I also just blast through loads of profiles with nothing.

I know some people might not have video cameras or recording equipment of any kind. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Still, for so many musicians to not have any kind of examples of their abilities on a site like this is strange to me.

And this might help you all understand not posting recordings immediately - at least in my case.

I had no way to guage the average calibre of recording and get a sort of baseline on the quality that would be deemed acceptable.

Since I don't yet have a voculist that postion is filled by me - and I'm not very good. I did sing "Sweet Jane" in a cover band but it was because that song requires a crappy voice.

However - I've listened to lots of stuff here and liked some and didn't like some so I believe I'll just go ahead and record a couple tunes and post them.

It's probably stupid but I've never liked to put any music out in public until it was well rehearsed with a complete band. 8)

Anyone can make a profile here.
Even people whom are just bored and lonely and want to pretend to be a musician for a time.

I had no music and no band when I first came here.
Was lucky I got the responses I did.
I used the vast experience of members of this board and their honest and often pointed opinions to help me learn and grow.
I can understand one not wanting to post music that is not completed.
However I viewed it as a place for honest critique.
Sometimes it was brutal.
Sometimes it was pointless.
More often than not it helped me immensely.

Try not to be prejudiced while doing your search.
Message everyone in your area.
Expect few responses.
Be ruthless in persistence.

Encouraging. Just enough. I liked it. Some of that is needed here from time to time.

But too much of that stuff could make ya wanna puke. :)

I'm pretty sure I was on Bandmix for 2 years before I figured out how to post anything here. Just so you know, I answer all of my messages. I came here to hang with the cool people...being so cool myself. Now, I have been here so long that I have to come here to tell my brothers and sisters what I am doing... I have met one of the members. I hope to meet more and "hang" with them. I also had a nice experience of recording with one of our members. I like it here.
