The lyric isn't really all that important in a tune like this. It isn't an epic prog thing. It also isn't anywhere near to what I'd call, "rock," though it's pleasant enough to my ear.
I do notice a trend in your stuff, RM, that seems to transcend mere "style" to the point of near obsession. You seem to hate simplicity, preferring to use a plethora of chord changes & choppy rhythmic attacks, where fewer would certainly do, & sometimes fewer would add to the ambience that you seem to reach for, imho. (This doesn't necessarily apply to this particular tune, btw. i'm speaking in general, on what I've heard from your work.) There's also a tendency to use the same instrumentation & walking bass styles to the point that, sometimes, the songs almost seem interchangeable, in spite of the different meters, or keys, or vocal attack. The choppy rhythm work on tune after tune also gives this affect. (I realize that I haven't heard your entire catalogue, & can only comment on what I listen to on your profile page.) I rarely hear a sweep strum, & can't recall any electric work at all. The effects are also similar, giving the whole, that I've heard, a very monochromatic type of feel, in spite of your claims to playing so many different styles of music, because, though you may consider them each to be very, very different, to the average listener's ear, these attributes add up to them all sounding very much the same.
I am in no way degrading your music, understand. I am just pointing out that, if you want the songs to all sound like different styles, & to stand out on their own, perhaps you could try to experiment with some other ways of presentation.
And, as I said - I haven't delved that deeply into your catalogue of work.
SMILE - it's the safest way to spread your cheeks!
