Man, the action on that looks great! A luthier told me that it wasn't necessary to lower the action on my Standard SG, because Standards aren't supposed to have the bridge pickup lowered as much as the neck pickup...don't know why that is.

K Ive got a guy that sets up all my guitars and they basically play like butter, just touch it and its there.

When I was younger I was of the Stevie Ray school high action big strings and really get physical with the strings, but these days I needs all the help I can get!

Too close and the pickups "drag" string vibration down, lowering sustain and some high-end frequencies. Near the bridge this isn't as much a problem because it is near the string's fulcrum, the bridge. I always set my action really high, for feel, anyway.

I hear ya. I'd use suspension bridge cables if I could.

I'm seriously thinking of getting baritone guitars. I hate plain thin strings. I just throw away the "high E" anyway cuz I'll just break 'em. Five strings are enough.

Im back to 46-10s these days but I did use 52-13s at one point

I pretty much play in standard now and do some drop d tuning so I dont need the macho strings

When I used the heavy ones I played in E flat ala Stevie, Jimi

I love E flat. I think that's eventually the key my guitar ends up in when I don't use a tuner for a while. My ears go to an E flat default.
