Have you ever laughed so hard you pulled muscles in your stomach area? We are looking for drummers and this guy calls me about the new band and says he's going to bring his wife to sing with us. Then he explains that she is an opera singer. What the hell are people smoking these days? Here's a partial list of some of the covers we are doing: Superstition (SRV version), Voodoo Child, Cocaine, Roadhouse Blues, Pride and Joy, Hey Joe, etc. You get the picture. I just thought of the concept of a FEMALE opera singer singing those tunes and I started laughing my ass off. Could you imagine some opera diva singing Hey Joe for example? "Hey Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand? I'm going to shoot my old lady. I'm going to put her six feet in the ground." Maybe we SHOULD invite her over and do a Youtube video of the world's first opera version of Jimi Hendrix. Might get a million hits. I told the guy he can bring his wife and she could watch and listen to us, but keep her mouth shut. He was disappointed...boo hoo. (I'm still laughing about this.)

Diamanda Galas is a trained opera singer. She's done great versions of old blues and R&B tunes.

It would be extremely bizarre for a female opera singer to do almost any of our tunes. They are most definitely male oriented and an especially high pitched female operatic voice would be so incongruous as to be extremely funny to listen to. There are some concepts in music that work surprisingly well, this isn't one of them.

It is funny ... funny enough to actually work.
I'd give her a shot and keep an open mind.

Don't get me wrong, I love women, but the band is a great way for me to GET AWAY from them. I'd have to watch what I say around them. Nah, for me the band is boys night out. No women allowed...

Give her a shot, she just may fit in like one of the boys. You might hear her voice and be blown away. What if she was to join another band, and you ended up regretting the fact that you didn't give here a chance?

I can understand that much better than I can understand the worry about her being an opera singer...

 Pat Benatar was an opera singer. You know, if this drummer's wife can't do the job, she can't do the job. But, her ability to sing opera shouldn't shade opinion on her ability to hang with rockers.

For a while I was trying to find a female vocalist that had a voice like Pat Benetar, or Ann Wilson. Very hard to find! I would be more than just happy with a singer like them.
