Hey everybody, For the past year and a half i have been writing and recording my solo project on my very bare bones DAW. I am hopnig to get a setup to play live, by myself. Ideally i need to hook up two 1/4" jacks (one for a mic and one for a guitar or bass depending on the song) and one 1/8" for the prerecorded music. Right now, i have no live gear anymore. If anyone has any suggestions for the aspiring one man rock band, i am all ears and would be greatly indebted.

MIDI?

Nope no midi, Just audio. I prerecord all the instruments. I want to omit (for example) one bass track on one song and play along with it. and in the next song have a prerecorded song with no trumpet that i will perform live on that song.

Karaoke?

Posting something in your profile for reference would be a good start for objective or constructive comments.

Talent would be good start. I imagine that making your own backing tracks would be a tad above a Karaoke performance, but not much. Forming a band to display your talent goes against what you are attempting, but it would get you further.

I am trying to visualize a one man hard rock band. As usual, it is a bit more than I can visualize. Someone jumping around twirling a mike to Karaoke is as close as I can get.

That certainly is not your fault, it is simply a limitation to my ability to visualize. I guess I'm not much help.. however, this is the most interesting post this morning that I could find.

I have several tracks that i have written and would like to perform them, however i have no band. What i would liek to do is perform a different instrument on each song, with that particular instrument (and vocals) omitted on that track. This way i can perform my songs by myself in a bar or garage. All i want to know really is what kind of setup i would need to accomplish this. I realise that a hard rock band with one person may seem strange, but in respect to my artisitc vision, and a lack of like minded individuals, this is my option for now. Your interest in my situation is much appreciated, thanks.

Get a laptop upload all your stuff in it set the computer on a stand easily accessible to you on stage 2 powered speakers + monitor, that should take care of your backtrack playing, for your live instruments I guess you know what amplification you’ll need, you might want to consider to pipe everything through a mixer board for proper balance.

I got to tell you man one man on stage makes for a bleak show unless you have the personality of Howard Stern.

One man shows can be very successful if you play your cards right. For several years I have worked with four very different one man bands. All four of them would be booked every week during different times of the week. They played; County Fairs, Wine Fests, Parades, Old people homes, certain events at the VFW and American Legion, a few private affairs, some weddings, and the high pay jobs were at half way houses and rehab centers. Remember you MUST put on a show WITH A POSITIVE INSPRITIONAL STORY. People love stories. Each event requires a little different type of entertainment, don’t talk Jesus and God at a wine fest or VFW, they will not call you back, trust me. At these events fun jokes and positive stories work the best. The rehab centers love stuff like “Cry a little help from my friends, Wind beneath my wings, reeling in the Years… you get the drift. All four made between 300 to 800 a week in the summer time and all four loved to talk to people.

One was a One man polka band with a MIDI Concertina
One was all MIDI
One was backing tracks with live guitar
One was laptop guitar, small drum set and harmonica.

The best on this site at doing it solo has got to be neanderpaul. He does the one man band thing with style.
The recordings are going to be the hardest part of what you're trying to do. I practice a lot with CDs with my fender amps that have a stereo port to connect a CD player to and I can play any instrument I have while playing a CD. I use my looping pedal to broaden things out if I want . I can run my Mic and instruments into it a few different ways , and I'm still learning a lot about using it every time I play with it.

When I saw Paul do his show nothing was "recorded".

Yes, he uses loop technology BUT, he plays every single note right there in front of you.

IMO this is infinitely more impressive than playing to recorded material as I have seen others do.

This is not intended as a slight to anyone as I have seen others play to recordings and be quite entertaining.
Just a personal observation of what I now consider to be the epitome of the OMB scenario.
