Rasta wrote another great lyric that is decidedly rockabilly a la Stray Cats/Buddy Holly. I'm no expert of that style (Brian Setzer, etc) but it will be fun to try. Back to the studio tonight.

I posted one version of the new song from last night's session. I did the scratch vocals, Rasta's voice was gone by that point. Here's the lyrics:

That Night -Mitchell

The moon was bright and the weather was fair
And the breeze was so nice blowin’ through your hair
Where I’d rather be I can’t think of anywhere
We should have another night like we did over there

The way I fell for you was so surreal
You’re like a banana and I slipped on the peel
I can’t explain with words exactly how I feel
Once I had a heart of glass and now it’s made of steel

When I kissed you I felt my hands a-shakin’
And when you kissed me I knew you weren’t fakin’
And when I look back there is no mistaken
In fact I gotta million mental pictures taken

Now my feet are in the grass and my head’s in a cloud
And all day long I sing your name real loud
Where I’d rather be I can’t think of anywhere
We should have another night like we did over there

One day we might be really old
And the weather might always be rainy and cold
If the moon crashed into the sun I wouldn’t care
Could we have another night like we did over there

It's a good tune. I know you're punkish as a rule, but I'd really like to hear this with a nice, crisp, clean axe tone, & a more aggressively active bass line. That would really bring out the heart & soul of the song, imho...i.e. show off the rockabillyness!

We talked about maybe bringing a Twin Reverb in to get that sound. But the reality is I use a Marshall and that's the tone. There's another version we recorded that's more straight up rock. I'll be posting more as the song evolves.
