Would this qualify as emotional or political?

"Prime Mover" Lyrics, by Zodiac Mindwarp

And there are some political songs that have transcended being dated by the sheer quality of the music... "Ohio" for one. Nixon's not coming anymore, but damn that's a fantastic song.

Nixon never left. His shadow still darkens our country.

Music is the universal vehicle of communication between spirits.
Politics is words and deeds... and the deeds often show the words to be empty and meaningless.

My political convictions are constantly reforming, as are my spiritual ones.
There are strong arguments for both sides. I try to rise above self in life, and delve into it in music.

Writing a song about political songs might be interesting...

First song I thought about was "We Are The World"
I've done both and they both work as long as you believe in what you're writing and of course, it sounds good to somebody. I wanna hear the hate song

Here are the words I can recall, KK.

"I hate buses. I hate cabs
And I hate Smurf cartoons.
I hate them goddamned video games
& I hate Rubic's Cube
& I hate ppl telling me
What I can or cannot be
But most of all I hate
Bill & Hillary (or Marion Barry, depending on my mood)

"I hate my landlord when I pay my rent.
I hate the IRS
& all them other things with initials
With names ya have to guess
Like COD's & SOB's
Any governmental organization
But most of all I hate
Ronald Reagan

"I hate Unemployment
& I hate Welfare lines.
I hate that fat bitch asking me
What I'm doing with my time.
The PTL & the 700 Club
They gimme pains deep in my tush.
But most of all I hate Georgie Bush!

(I've forgotten this part, but does it really matter?)
& I hate the cost of driving here
With my high-octane blues,
But I really have enjoyed
Bein' with you."

I just remembered! The actual name of the song was "The High-Octane Blues!" I haven't played it for quite some time, obviously...but it usually went over well, unless there were ppl in the audience who were assholes without a sense of humor, which happens, occasionally, as we all know!

I don't agree with the premise of the question, "Politics or Emotion."
First of they are not mutually exclusive.
The field of politics has some of the most negative highly-charged emotions attached to it . . .
.
I suspect that the percentage of musicians who write political songs is about the same percentage of folks who talk about politics.
.
Other folks write about falling in love, or breaking up, or they tell a funny story, or just express mild rage at something, or maybe just want to get you danceing, or want to bring you on a head-trip, or convert you to their religion . . . or , or, or, . . .

You could just as easily ask "Religion or Emotion" or "story-telling or emotion."
Or any of 100 other topics.
But the origional question says we can only choose between only 2 reasons for music, and that's just plain dumb.
:)
The question assumes we agree with the logic behind the question, and I do not.
I see farther than the limits of the question.
Some of us - just like to play music.
:)
Sure- that's emotion - but so is politics.

I don't really get into anything political. Mostly personal thoughts for me, with the occasional Sci-Fi theme song to get away from my thoughts. Lately I've been somewhat apocalyptic in my lyrics, in a Revelation sort of way. Don't know what my fascination is with the end of the world.

It already came and went. We are the damned walking the Earth AFTER the revelation!

Even a "hate" song can bring a smile to someone's face. Thanks for sharing.
I always tore the stickers off the Rubic's Cube anyway. Call me a cheater, I don't care  I still like "Morons" better!

Yeah . . .
Music is a personal thing.
We all play or write songs for our own reasons.
There's as many reasons as there are people, eh?
And - they're all good, pretty much.
.
But - almost ANY reason to write a song with any message - is a GOOD reason.
